@presidentcarter

The iphone 4 should be unlocked... I would call AT&T to confirm. It has obviously been more than 2 years for that phone. The iphone 5 is more complicated... Looks like you need to do some research on google.

macrumor forums are saying $2 at "swiftunlocks.com" is the way to go and that it works even if you update it. WTF...$2? Then why are "unlocked" phones a big deal on the aftermarket?

Never got the big deal about the iphone, absolutely everything is a "bubble" and it looks like a cartoon.

If I get an unlocked iphone 4, 4s, or 5, will it work in both east asia and latin america?

@Tenerife It will work anywhere. You just have to get a local sim card and you are good to go.

If you are buying in the USA then make sure you buy a GSM iphone as that is what everywhere else in the world uses. Networks in the USA using it are AT&T and T-mobile. Do NOT buy a CDMA iphone from Verizon or Sprint. CDMA phones do not have SIM cards.

The new ios 7 is coming out in a few hours. Anyone with an iPhone 4, 4s, 5 can upgrade to it. Here is a good guide on how to back up your iphone and get it ready for the upgrade....

Have iOS7 installed on iphone5 and 3rd gen ipad. Good on iphone but am experiencing some jankiness on the ipad (poor responsiveness). I like it more than I thought I would. I guess they made it more like Android...it's a good update.

I'd agree that iOS 7 on the iPad is a bit off. Perhaps the word to describe it is 'uneven' or 'jittery'.

For you guys who have played around with ios 7 you will notice that on the lock screen you can swipe up from the bottom and get all sorts of options. 2 of those options could be really helpful...

If you have a girl staying the night and she keeps getting texts/calls then with out having to unlock her phone you can discretely turn on "airplane mode" or "do not disturb" and if she is not that clever with her phone she may never know what happened or be able to think it was you since you don't know her unlock code.

Could be very useful.

Ok, then only thing is that I have a verizon account in the US.

So if I get a cdma phone for the US, I can't put a sim card in it for overseas travel, even if I get it unlocked?

Correct... A CDMA iphone like those you would get with Verizon runs on a totally different network then the rest of the world that uses GSM. Getting it unlocked does you no good.

The iPhone 5 on Verizon has a SIM card slot now. It's a world phone. I've used it abroad with no problems.

Is the GSM part of it unlocked out of the box or did you have to do some hacking?

I believe you just have to ask Verizon to unlock it.

If only you knew how bad things really are.

If it was a gsm only phone like on ATT they'll unlock it for after your contract is up. This one is different since it supports CDMA and gsm. I don't know if the same rules apply.

Interesting I didn't know that was possible. Good to know.

Yes, Verizon will unlock your SIM card and I don't think you even need to be past your contract period.

Also, just saw this video that shows you how to hide stock apps (ones you never use) in iOS7. They reappear if/when you reboot your phone.

Which iphone/carrier are you guys getting?

I've been telling people the difference between the 5c and the 5s is that c means cheap and the s means spensive [Image: lol.gif]

Sprint is offering $100 off an iphone if you switch carriers plus unlimited text and data. It's like $80 a month. Thinking bout switching from AT&T.

I'm no tech nerd, but there was no unlocking to do. I showed up in Brazil, opened the Verizon iPhone 5 SIM card slot and they popped it in. It's the first CDMA iPhone that does this.

I was going to switch to a droid because of this, but someone showed me that I didn't have to. Real game changer for me as a Verizon iPhone user.

Damn, yeah that's sick.

The verizon iphone 5 apparently has a sim slot for gsm, so it works for both cdma and gsm.

I'm sold.
