RNC Convention/Romney's Speech

Dont know if anyone got the chance to watch or catch any of it, but for those who possibly did-I'm wondering what yalls' opinions are of Romney's Speech and whether or not it aided in his chance of becoming President (or not?). I'll offer my opinion after some chime in.

RNC Convention/Romney's Speech

I watched a big chunk of it. It was all pomp and theater and really didn't do much to help in the grande scheme I feel. He did have a more Presidential swagger up their which he has been working on but all in all the RNC is just campaign theater it was mostly just mud slinging on Obama.

To me the most candid part of the convention was Romney prior to the speech rehearsing. It was the first time I did not see Romney act like a stiff robot. He was just talking to even coordinators real frank and then it dawned one me:

Romney is only comfortable around money, meetings, and his church. He is a still creep in all other venues because his whole life has been with him in small huddles of people or with powerful people.

Which brings up the big points that Romney has to try and hide or limit the only natural aspects of his life...

Being a high level Mormon.

Being Rich as hell.

His money and his faith are important to him but its a touch sell to use that to connect with the average day Joes in America.

His traditions and backgrounds as a man are interesting I am debating to do a post on it outlying where his mindset and up-bringing would mean to America if he becomes President.

They're ignoring the real issues, like who is better equipped to fight off the Mayan space horde on course to destroy earth in December. I'm going with Obama, because I'm pretty sure he's a secret reptile alien.

I watched about 5 minutes of it before I felt like vomiting. Was cruising the online news today and saw a few articles about Clint Eastwood's speech, watched a bit of it on youtube and it was fucking retarded, dude was addressing an empty chair as it it were Obama with hypothetical questions and then going off on the hypothetical replies. Dude seemed completely incoherent and delusional.

I read somewhere that Republicans are only going to get something like 10% of the "minority" vote, that means 90% of the voting minorities will vote for Obama. As far as I see it the Republican party only has a good 20 years left that they can cruise off of the conservative white vote.

These conventions do little to sway voters. They're just giant pep rallies.
Republicans say what their base wants to hear.
Democrats will say what their base wants to hear. bla bla bla

The debates are what I'm waiting for.

RNC Convention/Romney's Speech

I watched Romney's speech and heard the one from Christie the other day. I know this is mostly pomp and circumstance and just a big echo chamber for the party leaders to preach to the choir. I still watched because this man may hold the most powerful office in the world next January so I might as well see what he's got to say for himself.

I find all the personal stories and jokes and phoney attempts at sounding "warm" and connecting with the average man to be tiresome. There was very little meat on the bone. I wanted to hear some specific policy changes he would work to implement. There was very little of that, very few specifics about what exactly he would cut to balance the budget. Not that I didn't expect this sort of fluff but I was hoping to to be surprised with some substance. All I really took away is that he plans to get more hawkish with Iran and Russia and wants to get nice and cozy with Israel again and of course turn up military spending back to cold war levels even though the cold war is over. These guys are always talking about cuts in spending but never want to cut spending for the military, even though we are by far the most dominant and mobile military force on the planet without even a close second. And man, all the forced interjection of women this, women that during the speeches was so pandering it was nauseating. It was as ridiculous as when they were playing Ricky Martin's "La Vida Loca" during the RNC back in 2000 to try and woo Hispanic voters. Yeah...

If you didn't see it, you didn't miss much. Just the normal pandering, half-truths and spin that comes with these conventions. I'm very curious to watch the DNC speeches next week. Obama is clearly in trouble with the economy so it'll be interesting to see how he makes his case that he deserves another four years.

Thought it was interesting that Romney didn't mention RomneyCare or any of his relevant governing experience in Mass.

Eastwood's speech was somewhat disrespectful to the oval office, even if you disagree with policy or ideology.

Also was interesting that Jeb Bush was trying to defend his brother, but the GOP won't even invite George Bush to speak at any of its national conventions.

These conventions are about marketing so there wasn't much substance, in general.

One thing I did notice was how polished Rubio was. He is obviously eyeing down 2016 as I am sure Hillary will be doing as well. Rubio speech was way more clear cut and focused the Romney's.

I actually thought Romneys speech was very good. He may not be the most charismatic dude in the room but given his background and executive leadership experience I think he's the best man for the job right now.

Rubio is a rockstar. I think Romney is going to beat Obama this year, but if he doesnt Rubio has to be the early frontrunner for 2016. He will be President one day and he will be a very good one.
