GDP = the value of everything produced in a country (products and services)
GDP per capita = GDP divided by the number of people in the country.
GDP per capita is similar to "average income".
During my travels, I've noticed some interesting things you can tell about a country from its GDP per capita:
- Counties with GDP per capita over $40K are mostly feminist. The higher the GDP per capita, the higher the level of feminism. Check out
- If GDP per capita is less than $15K, tap water is mostly not safe to drink.
- The lower the GDP per capita, the more laid back the life style. Countries with GDP per capita above $35K have a overworked & stressed out population.
- The lower the GDP per capita, the more friendly the population. The higher the GDP per capita, the more anti-social.
- The lower the GDP per capita, the more family-oriented the population. The higher the GDP, the more family doesn't matter.
- The lower the GDP per capita, the more air polution they have. Under $20K the air is usually quite polluted.
- The lower the GDP per capita, the less the population follows rules.
- The lower the GDP per capita, the higher the likelihood of racism.
- In countries with GDP per capita under $3K or $4K, utilities are very unreliable with frequent power outages. Also internet access is usually slow and expensive. DSL in India costs like $60 for 1Mb connection.
- In countries with GDP per capita over $40K political correctness becomes overly important, to the point that its destructive.
I could add a lot more to this list. Its interesting how one number can tell you so much about a country. Its also interesting how wealth improves the standard of living, but totally fcks up culture. In the future when I have a family, I think I'd like to live in a country with GDP of $20K to $30K. It gives you a good mix of decent standard of living and decent culture. As a single guy, I prefer countries under $10K GDP.
