Cross PNG by Foot

I've been reading the naughty nomad forum and came accross the idea of going from the south to the north of New Guinea by foot. There is no road linking the north and south of the country so it would require going through dense jungle and rough terrain. The starting point would be Port Moresby and the end would be Lae. I'm looking into survival courses and the logistics/preparation that will be required for this. If anyone wants to join me then get in contact. Also, if you don't think this is a good idea then fuck off with any comments because I'm completely aware of what the dangers are.

Not my kind of trip but if you pull it off then ultimate respect [Image: icon_worship.gif]

I read a book about an old dude who did it across Burma a few years back,Bert Lintner I think he was called, read it to get some ideas of the hardships to expect. The book 'The Heart of Borneo' will give you an idea too. NPG is meant to be seriously dangerous but in the hills amongst the stone age tribes you'd probably get great hospitality. Trip of a lifetime, good luck!

Damn ugly women though.

Don't have any practical advice other than highly recommending doing it and preparing with at least one other person and not alone. Have you done more conventional adventure travel before, e.g. climbing Kilimanjaro, jungle treks, etc.? If not, you may want to do a scaled down version to make sure you're really into doing the trip. Best of luck though, I'm sure it'd make a crazy story to tell the grandkids.

As I mentioned here, they look pretty tempting to me:

I can't have sex with your personality, and I can't put my penis in your college degree, and I can't shove my fist in your childhood dreams, so why are you sharing all this information with me?

In the book 'Cycling Home From Siberia' the author travels across PNG on his bike.

Worth a read if you're interested in the trip.

I was planning on doing this trip around 2014/5. It's always been an ambition since I was kid. Now that's what I call an adventure. You can get a cheap fly to Port Moresby via Brisbane.

Thanks for the advice guys. Vorkuta, I'm going to get that book "The Heart of Borneo" on the kindle and read it and also 'Cycling Home from Siberia" 3extra. I've got a lot of books right now I'm planning to read, including Nomad's book when it comes out tomorrow. I'm going to do some jungle treks etc to sort of build up to it. As Soma mentioned (and judging by the picture) it's not really the sort of place you'd go to pick up women lol. It's more just the challenge! I live in Brisbane so it's good to know there's some cheap direct flights to Port Moresby!

Sounds like an adventure but not for me. I like my trips abroad to be a little more comfortable. Keep us updated with your plans.
