Honestly, that is a great idea.

Believe it or not, there are 4-5 legit places in San Diego that serve Cheesesteaks. They even caught on there.

I have some friends from Philly and South Jersey that vouched for them. (Keep in mind they didn't say they were as good as back home, but you get the point...)

Miami is wide open for a few things; Philly Cheesesteaks, Legit traditional sushi, Yakatori, San Diego style Mex etc.

The Shack in Santa Monica has the best cheesesteaks I have ever had outside of South Jersey or Philadelphia. I used to fight traffic like crazy going up there from Long Beach at least once a week when I was living there.

Do you like Voltaco's?

My friend had that shipped out to us once.

I have no idea what Voltaco's is. What is it?

Your statement about there being some decent cheesesteak places in San Diego appears to be correct. I know that a lot of New Jersey surfers from Northern Cape May County and Southern Atlantic County relocate to San Diego. If you know some of those guys, I'm 100% sure that we know some of the same people. There are also many other transplants from Philadelphia and other parts of South Jersey who create the need for cheesesteaks in San Diego.

One of my best friends growing up opened up a place in the Jersey Shore town where we are from which sells top tier cheesesteaks even by South Jersey/Philadelphia standards. He has won all kinds of awards and stuff. If I ever decide to sell cheesesteaks in Miami, I will definitely fly this guy down there so he can show everyone how it's done. I would have to do it in the winter, because he gets really slammed in the summer.

Thanks. I grew up in the same county where Voltaco's is located, but down the coast. I don't know how I never heard of it. I will try to go there the next time I am home.

Cool. Yeah, I would be curious to what you think. I liked it, although I had it shipped, which I am sure is not the same. My friend really dug that place.

Also, yeah, there has always been a South Jersey - San Diego connection as far as I can remember.

Boca and South Beach trip report

I recently returned from an eleven-day trip to Miami and other than my posts on Macaluso's, I have not yet provided a trip report, so here goes.

I have been to Miami during all times of the year. The experience which I had during this most recent trip made it clear to me that Miami is far better from December to March and quite possibly at its best in January and February. Until I move there, I really have no inclination to go unless it is January or February.

During previous trips to Miami, I spent a fair amount of time in both Miami Beach and in other parts of Miami-Dade County. During this trip I completely changed my strategy and rarely left South Beach. The only times in which I left South Beach or got into a taxi were the two times I met rationalize_this in Brickell, one other time when I went to Bongo's in downtown Miami, and one time when I went on a date in Doral. During this trip, I saw way more talent in South Beach than I saw in other parts of Miami and I felt as though I would be missing out if I spent too much time on the other side of the bridge.

I stayed at the Catalina in South Beach. They gave me a really good deal. It was actually one of the cheaper hotels in town. Even if the price had not been a factor, I probably would have stayed there anyway. First, the place is very conveniently located on Collins Avenue, between 17th and 18th Street, one block from the beach. Second, it has a rooftop pool with a bar that always had girls at it. There were always many more girls than guys and most of the guys I saw there were a total bust. Many of my approaches during my eleven-day trip were made right there at the rooftop pool and bar. There are two separate hotel buildings which comprise the Catalina. One is the main Catalina building and the other is a hotel which was formerly called the Dorset. There is supposedly a Miami Beach ordinance which prohibits the Catalina from changing or removing the sign which says "Dorset." It is some kind of art deco preservation ordinance. The rooftop bar and pool are located in the building which says Dorset. Both buildings have lobby bars and the main Catalina building has another pool with which I am not familiar. I didn't see any talent at all at either of the lobby bars.

I did one beach approach during my entire trip. Yes, you read that right. The one girl I approached happened to be a former Miss Universe contestent and I ended up spending much of the rest of my trip with her (Please no pics or it didn't happen stuff. She has already been validated by two forum members, both of whom know me personally). The lack of beach approaches was mostly due to the large number of girls and almost total lack of competition at the rooftop bar and pool at the hotel.

I went to Nikki Beach on two consecutive Sundays and have a rather interesting take on the present state of that place. I know The G Manifesto is not the biggest fan of Nikki Beach as it presently exists. The first of the two times I went there on this trip was on a holiday weekend. I actually went there on the same holiday weekend the previous year. It was the only time prior to this trip when I had ever been there. The first time I went there during this trip, the place was unreal. I have to say that it may very well have been the best venue I have ever seen in the United States. Tons of talent and very few bitch shields. I approached about ten girls, all of whom gave me their numbers. The last girl I approached was an Italian-American girl from the north part of my state. I was able to isolate her from her friends and take her to another part of the club and have a few drinks. I could not, however, get her to go to another venue or directly to the hotel. I think she had to take her friends home or something. I was too busy with other girls during the rest of my trip to call her. I spoke to rationalize_this the next morning and told him how great Nikki Beach was and he couldn't believe me.

I went back to Nikki Beach the next Sunday. Bear in mind that the next Sunday was not a holiday weekend. It was really awful. Little to no talent and the place was pretty dead. All I can say is if you have the inclination to go there, try to go on a Sunday when the next day is a holiday and try to go sometime between December to March. The place went from great to horrible in just a week. It has to be better during holiday weekends.

In my opinion, Bongo's has gone to hell in a handbasket. I went there on a Saturday. The music was as good as ever, the outside portion of the club was open because the weather was nice, but there were grenades and attitudes galore. For some strange reason, I have had the most success there during September and October. I definitely will not go back there during the winter. The night I was there, they were setting up for a marathon to go through downtown Miami the next day. Because of that no taxis were permitted to pass through that part of Miami even if I called the taxi company to send someone. The angle I tried to work was to ask all the girls if they could give me a ride back to the beach. I got shut down left and right when I tried to do that. I ended up taking a long walk through downtown Miami until I finally saw a taxi. I strongly believe that the taxi I found was the only one in about a three-mile radius.

The W Hotel bar was a total bust during this trip. I took a tour through there several times. There was really good volume, but the talent was really awful. Interestingly, I have had success there in August and September, always with Southern California girls.

I also took a tour through the Delano pool bar. The place was packed with white people in their 40's and 50's who were probably from Middle America. At least 70% of the people in the place were guys. The people would not move when they were in my way and may have even intentionally tried to get into my way in order to piss me off. I thought I was in the twilight zone or something and quickly got out of there. The place has a nice set-up, however, and looks like it could have potential.

For future Miami trips, I will definitely stay at the Catalina. I will probably only go during January and February, and will do little to no nightgame. The only nightgame I may do is go to Nikki Beach on Sunday during a holiday weekend and maybe take a tour through the W Hotel Bar and the Delano pool bar.

Great sheet.

Have you ever been from Oct - Dec?

Those months in South Beach are sick. Art Basel is mindboggling. And some great charity events during that time of year. Some of the best I have ever been in my life.

I believe it. There is nothing that surprises me in South Beach. I have some stories I would dare never share on here or the internet, because everyone would doubt me anyways. Let them doubt, while you go for a swim in 76 degree water and ask the topless girl two towels over for light for your smoke at 2pm on a Tuesday.

Day Game? Or Evening Game? Or What?

Tourists or Locals?

Real hit or miss.

The Dutch in The W has converted for me heavy, but it was a night where there was an art event at Bass, and some people rolled across the street.

Doesn't surprise me.

Southern California girls are idiots when it comes to Miami. They always think the best time to go is summer. So stupid.

Tuesday night, after dinner, before the club is the best time to go.

When are you moving there?

Now some "give back" (so to speak):

Have you been to SLS Hotel? Dope on Fridays and Sat.

Have you been to Wynwood, Midtown and Design?

I am starting to stab into (so to speak) those hoods.

Some real fly spots and fly girls, without the hassle of South Beach. Even less hassle than Brickell.

I have been rolling with girls there mostly, so I haven't tried to swoop there yet, but I can see it is kind of a goldmine.

I have been to Miami multiple times in October, November, and December. I have been there at least twice for Halloween, although I was not there for the most recent Halloween. Halloween is good in Miami, although I much prefer January and February. What always plagued me in Miami prior to this trip was constantly rainy and sometimes cold (in the winter) weather. During this trip, the weather was sunny and clear pretty much every day I was there. I was there for the same days last year and it was cold and/or rainy almost every single day.

The pool/rooftop bar at the Catalina closes at 10:00 P.M. at the very latest. If there aren't many people there, it sometimes closes at 8:00 P.M. or earlier. It is therefore only suitable for daygame. It was 100% tourists at the Catalina. There was a decent mixture of American girls and international girls. Remember, college students from places like Argentina and Chile are on summer break around the months of January, February, and March and sometimes like to visit Miami during their break. Many of the American girls are what I think you call "red state dorks." Let's just say they didn't exactly airlift a few hundred girls from Southern California and the Jersey Shore to meet me there. There were some good ones, but I had to sift through a lot of grenades.

The holiday weekend when I went to Nikki Beach was whatever holiday fell on Monday, January 21, 2013. I don't know the name and I apoligize for my ignorance. Since tomorrow (Monday, February 18, 2013) is some kind of holiday, Nikki Beach may be at least decent tonight.

I hope to move to Miami within the next two years, although I'm 100% sure the move won't be made in the next year and a half. Five years ago, I had the worst financial situation of probably anyone on this forum. I've been working almost around the clock since then and am now completely out of debt. No student loans, no mortage, no credit cards, no car payments, no alimony, no child support. I am now concentrating on building wealth. As soon as I put together a good bankroll, I will move there. I believe heading to Miami without a solid bankroll and hoping to strike oil would be incredibly foolish.

I've never been to SLS, Wynwood, Design, or Midtown, but I will try to check them out in the future.

BTW I've been checking airfare to South Florida in March (WPB, FLL, and MIA) and they are kind of high ($400+), especially if you want to fly back on a Sunday. Is this normal?

Not really, but I have paid $400.00 or higher in the past. I usually pay in the $200s and always fly to MIA from either BWI or Reagan National. I haven't flown into or out of FLL in seventeen years. I have never flown into or out of WPB. I would try to see what the fares from Regan National to MIA are. Flights leave from those two airports and from Dulles to MIA many times a day.

I start by doing a tour on Ocean Drive. I start at 5th and Ocean and head north on the west side of the street. I then do a similar tour on Lincoln Road. I then head to the bar at the W. If nothing happens by that point, I head to Brickell. I first go to Baru Urbano then to Blue Martini. In my opinion, Thursday is not one of the best nights in Miami. There was some discussion on the forum in the past about the bachata night in the Well Lounge on Thursdays which moved to another venue. The last I heard they were trying to find yet another venue for the bachata night and it wouldn't be happening again until they find another venue.

Do you know anyone in South Beach, Aventura, Sunny Isles Beach, or North Miami Beach who needs a roommate? It has to be a girl, a gay guy, or an extreme beta, preferably a girl. It's obviously not for me. Some girl called my earlier today and asked me if I could help her with this.

I remember you saying that. I try to stay off Ocean Dr. at all costs.

Although the Betsy Hotel is kind of nice. I may have to do your program one night in honor of you though.

Which is your favorite night in Miami?

I usually go out Tues, Wed, Fri, Sat, which is why I asked out Thurs.

Isnt Ocean Drive down that far mostly cheesy tourist spots? I spent some time there back in the 2008 time frame and would do the same walk but wouldnt go in anywhere up until I got to the hotels up around 15th st or so. The only nightlife I can even remember that far south was Mango's, which wasnt my scene, and Clevelander, which was closed for renovations at the time.

Yes.

I should let Merenguero answer, but I think the theory behind his strategy is to pick up clueless tourist girls on Ocean. Then maybe bounce them, and "show them the real South Beach".

Which of course, is exactly where a clueless tourist girl would be. So it is a strong theory for that. I also have a friend that likes to do a "quick spin of Ocean" if we are close. I never want to do it, but he swears by it.

This is the way my mind works. South Beach isn't a huge place and you need to cover all your bases. I have never timed it, but I would estimate that a walk heading north from 5th Street to the end of Ocean Drive would take approximately twenty minutes. If you take this tour, the worst case scenario is that there would be absolutely no talent, you did not do one approach, and you wasted a whole twenty minutes of your life. It's funny that some people watch porn and/or play video games all day, yet see a twenty- minute walk up Ocean Drive as a completely wasted significant portion of their life. If you take the tour and it's a bust, so be it. At least you won't be wondering what would happen if you had tried out one more strategy in South Beach.

G, to answer your previous question, I like Saturdays and Sundays the best. I like Saturdays because volume is better and there are literally infinite nightlife options. I like Sundays because there are some options on the other side of the bridge like La Covacha and Club Tipico Dominicano. La Covacha stays open really late on Sundays, often until the last person leaves.

Boca and South Beach trip report

I used to make that walk every night. 7th and Ocean to Lincoln, down Lincoln, back down the other side of Lincoln, and down Washington. Is that one dude still hanging on the sidewalk rapping into the microphone as people walk by? Or that freakshow in spandex on the unicycle up and down Lincoln Road?

Merenguero -

What did you like on Thursday nights in Miami Beach?

Merenguero, am I warm?

That is a great way to look at it.

My question is this:

Do you think that time would be better spent on Collins or Washington?

Or Lincoln (not a direct comparison obviously)?

Of the places you mentioned, I would rank Lincoln first, Ocean Drive second, Collins third, and Washington fourth. If you have the time, do all of them.

Spent a week in florida 4 days in boca 4 days on south beach.

Preliminary report:

You'll get girls from all over the world, but if you like latin chicks, this is the place for you. My fav part about miami was all the hot little rich girls and ridiculous amount of hot friendly cuban chicks. Don't get why a lot of the members here are saying miami is difficult. Me and everybody in my crew pulled at least three times. nothing below a 7. Shit to see anything below a 7 was tough if you gp to the right places. Even during the day. I pulled every day except one night I got blackout drunk. Girls are everywhere: on the beach, clubs, walking down the street, cafes, little cuban spots, kiosks, etc. A few had bitch shields but not nearly as much as guys report on here. For my full report which I'll post in a few days I'll break down my game and also keep in mind a miami 7 is an NYC 8 at least.

My buddy has a sick house in boca and we stayed in two different hotels in miami.

Picked up my cuban and and french flags that week.

Damn, Ugslayer is banned.

Now we will never know the secret spots that he killed it in Miami in this never updated "hype sheet".

The beach is great. For tourists, the website http://www.residentadvisor.net/ is a goldmine for club data. Goes for any other city as well. Go to the 'events' section and check 'Florida'. It gives a rundown of clubs, covers, and number of members who will go.

The prices for entry are 1/2 or even free using the website. The promoters will often post for their clubs and by dropping them a quick email you can build connections wicked fast. Ask about a bachelor party or upcoming key-life-moment celebration you're having (moved I cribbed from GManifesto)

The best part of resident advisor is checking the number of people who are guaranteed to attend, because the website only lets you 'attend' if you've bought a ticket. Great way to scope out the night in less than 5 minutes. Any event with more than 40 tickets bought on RA is guaranteed to be a hotspot.

My suggestions: The FDR room at the Delano is hot right now. Check resident advisor, lately they have been posting who is going to manage the friday night guestlist and a namedrop before 1am gets you in free. Dress sharp.

Treehouse for wed, thurs, fri & Story on saturday: all run by the same booking crew (miami rebels) and the focus is on the music. You will meet like-minded people looking for a good time, but the pickup is hard. It kind of resembles what people say about Iceland...once treehouse closes it you're only a quick conversation away from an after party or quick hookup. On nights where my original plans bombed, I've gone to treehouse at 4:40 (closes at 5) just to bump fists with the promoters and find a random apartment afterparty. People are social and friendly once the music stops

I can't take hip hop or traditional bottle popping music so those are really the only spots I go at the moment.

There is a new underground spot called 'Don't Sit on the Furniture' on 16th and washington that's run by the same people as the electric pickle (a good spot in midtown). That's gonna be hot the next few weeks as well.

I Lived in Miami for 2 years and found beach game to be the easiest as far as getting numbers. One of the problems with girls there depending on how you look at it is that almost all of them our tourists which is good for snl but bad if your trying to build up a steady rotation or meet new people. Not to mention the price of clubs is crazy but certain spots are free. I always had the most success at the clevelander which is normally filled with tourists wanting to have a good time while they are on vacation.

I agree completely. I give Mangos the edge over the Clevelander, but the Clevelander should not be passed up. Often I walk into the Clevelander, where there is no cover, take an tour, and if there is no talent, I leave and go elsewhere. Another advantage to Mangos is that it stays open later than the Clevelander.

Merenguero, don't you live in Miami?

I have never stepped foot in either of those spots.

Where else do you like to roll?

I don't live in Miami. I do have multiple family members who live there and I spent approximately one week out of every month there last year. I may get back into the habit of going there in a month or so.

Although I spend a great deal of time in both Miami Beach and in other parts of Miami-Dade County, I always stay in a hotel in Miami Beach. This is because I like being able to walk everywhere and I don't have any family on the beach. Everyone either lives in other parts of Miami-Dade or in Broward.

I generally go to the beach and the gym during the day. If it rains, which it does much more often than it should when I am in Miami, I try to catch up on some sleep and go to the gym. I never eat during the day when I am there.

I usually eat dinner somewhere between 8:00 P.M. and 10:00 P.M. I usually eat somewhere on either Ocean Drive or Lincoln Road. Many people consider the Lincoln Road restaurants to be better than the ones on Ocean Drive.

I know many people think Miami has substandard strip clubs, but after dinner I usually go to Club Madonna on Washington Avenue in South Beach. There is really no other option for strip clubs in South Beach.

After the strip club, where I go depends on the day. During the week, especially on Wednesday, I usually head to Brickell. There are several options there. Lolita is always a good option. Blue Martini gets pretty packed on Wednesday and Thursday, but I am not a big fan of that place. Baru Urbano is pretty good most nights. Segafredo is also pretty good. On Tuesdays, Boteco, which is far north and slightly west of South Beach is good for Brazilians. On Saturdays, I always go to Bongos in downtown Miami. When it is not raining, the outdoor section is always very good. I also go there some Fridays, but on Fridays, I prefer to go to the Brickell spots which I mentioned. On Sundays, I eat dinner at Club Tipico Dominicano. Sunday is the most popular club night there. I often plan to stay there after dinner, but I don't really like the set-up or overall vibe there. I usually end up going to La Covacha in West Miami on Sundays. It stays open to at least 6:00 A.M. I was there past 7:00 A.M. the last time I went. If for some reason I don't go to La Covacha, I may go to Nikki Beach on Sunday. It is the only South Beach nightclub I have ever been to. I don't really worry about ratios, but Nikki Beach had a pretty bad ratio last time I went. The talent was decent, though. In my opinion, that is all that matters. After I leave the main nightlife venue, I make a last ditch effort at the Clevelander, Mangos, or both. If that doesn't work, I go back to the strip club and throw up a hail mary. The Clevelander, Mangos, and Club Madonna are all in walking distance of each other and I usually stay within walking distance of all those places.

G, in case you still read the forum, I was planning on going to Voltaco's this morning so that I could try it out and report back. It turns out that starting today, they are only open on weekends and I'm already back in my favorite metropolitan area. A side note is that in that part of the coast, instead of Sunman, they have a guy they call "Slobber Bob." I never knew that. Also, this time of year is really good for meeting Russians in parts of the Jersey Shore. If anyone wants some more specific information, I will consider P.M.ing it. There have been a lot of bollockses around here lately, so I don't want to post it.

Boca and South Beach trip report

I went to South Beach a few weeks ago, and took my family on a vacation. Sleep at the pool, roll out to the beach, back to the pool, eat and drink at the pool, and on and on. And also look at the sexy foreign woman there at the pool making out with each other, it seemed like all of the tourists at this time were from Europe and So. America. Its really the most relaxing vacation I can have. I love that place, one of my all time favorites. Miami in August is really nice. I think its one of the nicest beach vacations in the US. Stay in a nice hotel and have the beach right out your door. There are few places in the US that actually have that. Usually its a crappy hotel/motel, but Miami has the best hotels and often have decent rates($150+). I even went down to 9th St and did some kick ass workouts at the beach workout area that has sprung up there. Cool hardcore urban workout scene there. I decided to fire up Tinder and started getting tons of matches, of hot looking girls. After Tindering extensively in the largest cities in the US, Miami by far has the hottest girls in the United States. Hands down. Being that I was with my family I laid low in our room, went to dinners on Lincoln, and just had a really nice time. I want to come back by myself. When I am in Miami I am usually tied up with a GF, family or colleagues. Not anymore, Im coming for fun from now on.

Was recently in Miami for a bachelor party, and I agree with Vaun that for beach destinations, there's just no point going anywhere else around the U.S. or Caribbean (in my opinion). Went to a place called Foxhole (locals hangout). People were pretty friendly. Cleavelander (Ocean Drive spot, can be fun, it's open air). Rec Room I hear is good but we didn't get in becasue too many guys. Also went to this pretty cool tacqeria/lounge called Bodega Taqueria y Tequila. Very popular now. Lounge access is through a fake portapotty door in the corner. Decent talent, but skews a bit older. They play old-school hip hop and a bit top 40. Couple of guys in my group pulled from Bodega (SNL but not super hot).
