Better City To Live in Edinburgh vs Dublin

Wise men of the Forum I come to you seeking some advice, I am set to to finally move to Europe permanently and have decided on either Edinburgh or Dublin, now I am well aware THEY ARE MANY COUNTRIES IN EUROPE THAT ARE BETTER TO LIVE IN, but I've settled on the these two cities for a variety of reasons that I don't want to get into; one of which is my love for redheads and second being I have to live in an Anglo country for my career. I want to know what you guys consider to be a better city overall to set up roots as a young bachelor. I haven't been to Ireland but have met many Irish people, and they seem along with Australian to be the friendliest people in the world. Looking through the forum I've found a lot of good things about Edinburgh ( shout out to Courage Reborn for great posts) but not much on Dublin. I have been to Edinburgh and thought it was a cool city. I'm hoping to get an overall picture for both cities; considering economic outlook in the future, women, entertainment, traveling logistics and quality of life.

Thanks ahead for any reply's I appreciate the knowledge you guys have.

In my limited experience with both, Edinburgh is the more upper-class city with a lot of medieval character. Also, Edinburgh girls make that cute little "aiym" noise when they're thinking. If you're looking for an alternative to central Edinburgh, I haven't been there but have read up on Leith and it is the first place I would check out if I wanted to settle around Edinburgh.

I liked Dublin, but it had a generic and expensive "big city" vibe that just didn't give me any sense of place. Perhaps it's a byproduct of the economy, going straight to boom town in a short period of time. Nobody here seems to have much appreciation for Dublin girls, though I like redheads too. Nothing there really made me think "I'll be back to this city one day". However, you might compare tax situations, you never know if there's something advantageous there.

Hidey-ho, RVFerinos!

I live in Glasgow and echo what Jetset has said above. PM me if you end up moving to Scotland and need any advice.

I would have to put the stamp on Edinburgh as well. I'm sure you can find a niche in Dublin but it won't be easy. Dublin is more expensive, the tourism is much more prevalent, the women are much more standoffish. IMHO Scottish women are some of the best wholesome type girls. Although watch out for the ones who drink a lot (as in any culture). I've not heard many negative things about Edinburgh really. Glasgow isn't a bad shout either, but choose your football club wisely.

I have lived in both (Irish) and would say Edinburgh - better size to get around - money goes much further.

Edinburgh June July August is arguably one of the best cities in Europe (would be if a bit warmer) with the different festivals - The Fringe festival has to be lived thru to be believed, it's just epic and will be a target rich environment.

Its the extra light in the summer being further North - Its bright until 23.30 almost mid summer and the city parks become alive with people and tourists.

I think the Australian novelty would go much further in Scotland as so many Irish since 2008 has been to work in Oz or have family there.

Having said that in Dublin with an Accent you'll do well - English lads clean up up in Temple with Irish Girls and the Dublin bars are waay better in atmosphere and just shooting the shit with random people you've never met before.

Hey guys I appreciate the quick responses, I think you guys are right, Edinburgh being the better place to set up operations, and like CUI Ri mentioned I hear the fringe festival is awesome.
