Records you are embarrassed to own but that are awesome:

Mine is Electric Light Orchestra's (ELO's) "Out Of The Blue" a double album from 1977:

What's wrong with ELO? They are great!

ABBA's greatest hits. Pop music perfection. My guilty pleasure.

Yeah, ELO is pretty dope, but I get why it could be considered a guilty pleasure.

I was listening to Prodigy the other day and thought that in due time that will be considered a guilty pleasure. Like early Depeche Mode, Devo, B-52s, or any other fun 80s music that's not "serious" or "emo" enough for today's deep, contemplative, Bon Iver-obsessed dipshits.

Nothing wrong with Prodigy. That's the one of the few techno/electronica groups I can listen to. Damn, I feel old lol. I'm sure most teenagers don't even know who the hell they are. B 52's are cool....my mom used to listen to them when I was younger.

I guess one would be KC and the Sunshine Band.

or Nelly Furtado

INXS

what about R.E.M.? Imagine playing this around some younger kids who were born in the 90's.

I'm not ashamed or embarrassed of what I listen to. I don't think I would play any of my secret cd's with anyone though because they'd look at me crazy. Girls would probably think i'm "creepy" and possibly gay. I'm one of the few people who has crazy variety in music that I've ever met. I remember buying a Slayer cd next to a Project Pat one right next to a R.E.M. one when I was in high school. The cashier girl like "Are these all for you or someone else?".

we've got similar tastes. I'll definitely be the bitter old fart that gets nostalgic for the 80s and 90s. R.E.M., INXS, Blind Melon, The Police, early Tool, Bjork, Brian Eno, shit, I just thought of the ULTIMATE guilty pleasure:

Jamiroquai. Haha. Fuck yea

Ok that jamoraquay guy is still annoying as he was when I was in elementary school and heard this song. Never liked the white boys trying to act "funky" and get down like that. Not many can pull it off.

Remember this jam

LMAO this shit goes haaaard. I love this. I want to play it on repeat while fucking a girl [Image: banana.gif]

I love me some Barry White.

Houston I've read a lot of your posts on here and always thought you were a cool guy,got a lot of time for your input but fuck me dude Nelly Furtado's 'I'm like a bird'?!![Image: puke.gif] No,no,no,I'm all for guilty pleasures but fuck me that song is utter shite and no heterosexual dude should own, listen or even know about that song. Fortunately your liking of INXS has redeemed the situation somewhat but only just. [Image: smile.gif]

Yeah, I like most of these songs posted.

My guilty pleasure song is definitely "Don't Fear the Reaper" by the BOC.
Not that it's unconventional (it isn't), I'm just obsessed with it and can listen to it, on loop, for hours probably.

Am I really this old? I'm going to be 25 next month but shit [Image: huh.gif] it seems like even the shitty pop songs from back then are a hell lot better than crap on the radio these days. I wish I was a kid back again...

Not really ashamed of listening to R.E.M....such a good band

Not ashamed of listening to Counting Crows either. They fucking rule!! I've never met anyone else who likes them though...

So I guess the other players won't MAN UP and list some of their guilty pleasures [Image: dodgy.gif]

Vince Clarke founded (and wrote all the songs for) early Depeche Mode but left to write (all the) songs for Erasure. They may be gay but their music rocks. Total GP.

Disco is the king (queen?) of bass lines, I listen to this stuff when I need to groove like my life depended on it.

Why would INXS and Focus be guilty pleasures? Those bands rule. REM is good too once you get past the corny singles like "Everyfaggot Hurts." Their pre-Out of Time output possesses a dull, heart-wrenching pain that I haven't heard duplicated anywhere else.

As far as my own guilty pleasures go, for someone who generally listens to obscure, face-painted, Christ-hatin', baby-killin' underground metAaAaAaLL, these would definitely qualify:

The way she moves is hypnotic:

And one more:

Guess I just love silly, retro shit.

Ok, this band is the shiiiiit. I remember jamming a copied tape from my uncle over and over in middle school. They're considered a punk band but every person I've played them for hates them [Image: huh.gif] I've stopped trying to get people into them after all the hate. I just don't think younger people can get into good music unless they were brought up on it. Their brain ain't programmed for it. I'm sure I would be called a fag if I drove around blasting them

That's because most people today are morons. Reminds me of some friends I have, who act as if there is no earthly reason to be familiar with any music or film that wasn't released during their lifetime. This is a sure sign of stupidity to me.

The Buzzcocks are the shit. Another cool band:

Houston, I love the Buzzcocks and I grew up listening to mostly punk rock and hard rock type stuff. The Buzzcocks are also one of the most important punk bands of all time. The Sex Pistols all met each other and formed after attending a Buzzcocks show. I think it was said that like 5 or 6 really big bands formed after seeing that show: Wire, The Sex Pistols and several others.

Howard Devoto, one of the founders of The Buzzcocks, founded the band Magazine after he left in 1977. Magazine rocks too, a lot of hipsters are into them:

I don't really like that Magazine song or the Adam and the Ants one. I didn't even know Buzzcocks was considered a punk band like that. I just listened to that tape all the time, bought the Singles Going Steady cd in high school, but never researched them. I was never and still am not accepted by punks at shows or people in the scene because I don't try to look like an idiot.

I own the 'Please Hammer don't hurt them' on cassette. I was in NJ when he was all over the radio and I was smitten by his shyt.

My cousin snickered at me owning his album but I thought quite a few songs on his album were toight...like a tiger.
