Data Sheet: Lawrence, KS

Lawrence, KS home to the University of Kansas. About a thirty minute drive from Kansas City. Small town, yet has a decent nightlife scene due to the large number of college students. Always a good time to be had in Lawrence.

Lodging: Stay at The Oread. If too pricey for you, find something near the Mass Street downtown area.

Day Game: Haven't done much daygame here, but I know a few spots. First, all coffee shops downtown and on or near campus will be good. Always packed. Second, anywhere on Mass Street from 11-4 on Thurs, Fri, Sat, and Sun works well. Also, try campus center and the library.

Night: The Hawk. Tonic. The Cave. Quinton's. Brothers. Abe and Jakes.

These are the top bars in Lawrence in my opinion (may have forgot one or two).

The Hawk: Dollar night is on Wednesday and is a must. The place gets incredibly packed. Arrive around 10:15-10:30, may already be a line. Get in and head downstairs. Grab a drink and mingle, once the main room downstairs boors you head to the martini room downstairs. Chill and mack on some scummies until about 11:30, then head back to the main area downstairs and get in line for the boom boom room. Spit in the boom boom room until 12:30 then get out of there as it gets trashier and weak even minute past 12:30-12:45. Head back to the Martini room or to the little dance floor upstairs. Also gets live on the weekends, just depends. Crowd is young, 18-22. This place is legendary.

Tonic: This is my favorite spot in Lawrence, maybe anywhere, although that doesn't mean a ton as I am not well traveled. Anyway, Come here on Thurs and Sat. Pretty live both nights. The place is dark and there are a ton of rooms, thus girls feel extremely comfortable with escalation as they can get out of glance from whomever they please easily. When you walk in go to the left, do not mess with the bar area to the right, it is well lit and large groups typically congregate there. The right side is where the action is. Grab a drink at the bar and then try to get a seat on the balcony bench across from the bar. This means you are sitting above everyone and everyone is walking by you. Its a great vortex zone and gives you the ability to check out all the action throughout the bar, stalking your prey. The corner of the bar near the dance floor is another good spot. Girls sitting on the coaches between the bar and the dance floor are typically super easy, even if they are with a friend or two still spit.

The Cave: Decent place. It is located under The Oread Hotel. Gets crazy packed on Fridays and Saturdays. I prefer Tonic and The Hawk to The Cave, but some nights The Cave is where the action is at. Best spot is anywhere around the bar and the dance floor, hit on girls standing around the dance floor or against the walls on the dance floor.

Brothers- Located on Mass st. Believe they have good specials Tuesdays and it gets live then. Occasionaly will be poppin on Friday or Sat.

Quintons: Located on Mass st. can get live on Friday or Sat. Head to the upstairs area if it is live.

Abe and Jake's: 18 and up spot. Can be alright.

House Parties can be a good bet as well. Can't remember the exact street names, but befriend some people and you will be able to find some.

I have never lived in Lawrence, but have gone out there 40-50 times, usually to the bars listed above. Tailgating is big before KU football games. Also, KU basketball is a huge deal, bars will be packed during games.

Day pool parties at the Reserve and the Exchange apartment complexes get wild. These tend to happen on Friday and Saturday afternoons from April-ish to September-ish.

Dude, where were you three years ago? this would have been priceless for me back then.
Also, if you live in KS, I probably know you. If you just moved there, I want to meet you.

The only thing to add is that Brothers used to have a 10 cent wings and $3 pitchers on Wednesdays. If you get in line around 8, by the time it is your turn to order, you would have made some new friends. A $20 bill will go a long way there.

Hooka Bar right next door to Tonic is a fantastic bounce location after the bars close. Get to know the owners, they are really nice guys and will always make you look good in public. After tonic/granada closes, people always stand around looking for an after party. This was my default location.

Henry's upstairs and bourgeois pig are awesome place to study during the day and pretty decent hipster places at night.
Barrel house is a thing, if you dig dueling pianos and country music.

Quintons at the end of Mass st. used to be the previous "it" bar, before Tonic opened up. Still a decent place to meet cute girls. I prefer upstairs, but they are often booked up for private parties.

The Well and Jazzhouse, have dirt cheap drink specials on Tuesdays and Thursdays, I think. Not ideal layouts for pickup, but people visit them for cheap drinks and you should too.

If you live in Lawrence, go to Haskel Boxing club at the Haskell University. It is totally free and they workout like they mean it. It is probably the easiest way to earn a six-pack and make some local friends.
