The gist is simple enough and well known. As long as girls want to have fun and enjoy life, express their spontaneity, have a full and rich sex life, they'll always pick the alpha male. Once the late 20s roll in, they're much more likely to settle down with a beta.
I disagree with most of their points that discuss characteristics though. That article treats men like 2 dimensional characters that are not capable of being alpha AND having the desirable traits that they mention.
Men that aren't natural alphas can acquire and express some of those traits easily enough. Work out. Party. Speak up. Stand up straight. Be reckless. But those are not deeper, defining qualities. That article states that beta men are:
"More evolved" Disagree. Alpha qualities produce happier men, and to me, that means more evolved. A beta who plays video games and resents women for not getting enough attention is not a highly evolved man.
"Cooperative" Sure, but who wants to shack up with a worker ant? Your average woman would be happier sucking off the CEO than being stuck with a cubicle peon.
"Creative, artsy, and funny" Disagree. Musicians, artists, comics, and other creative types are usually fringe personalities that also exhibit extreme behavior. While some artists die virgins, I still think that makes them more alpha than men that live lives of quiet desperation.
"More emotional" Disagree. Not more emotional, just more *openly* emotional, and who the fuck wants that? Women are turned off by this, no matter how much they say otherwise. The only way a woman is attracted to a man's emotions is if he's angry and putting her in her place
"Nurturing and caring" Sure, maybe. But give a woman the choice between a nurturing and caring father, vs. a disciplined and strong-willed father and I'm pretty sure we can agree which one she'd prefer.
"More faithful" Sure, maybe. But many betas have pent up resentments for a lifetime of female neglect. This can manifest itself in ugly ways, including compulsive cheating.
"Better husbands and fathers" Again, women are more attracted to men with backbone. No woman would be supremely fulfilled with a doormat.
"Healthier" Absolute horseshit. Think about every athlete, CEO, soldier, firefighter. Alpha men feed off of testosterone which is produced in great quantities through exercise.
"Less narcissistic" 100% true. But again, give a woman a choice between a partner that's full of himself, and one that lacks confidence and self worth.
It's a nice article that gives betas everywhere further validation to keep dressing like a hipster and fret over their lattes, but mostly horseshit nonetheless.

God, I hate these articles so much. They're infesting Cracked, too, with their "its better to be unattractive" article. Fuck that noise. I know they're trying to generate traffic to their site, but this pandering that bends the fabric of reality has to stop. Little kids read and internalize that shit.

The problem with Susan Walsh's hookingupsmart, is it's encouraging women to end up with men they don't find sexually attractive. If you want a recipe for failure this is it.
I suppose a really cynical view would be that it is encouraging women to go for beta men so that the pool of alphas is larger for Susan and her close relatives.
The formula the site promotes is wrong. A far better option for women would be to keep their legs firmly together until they have first extracted commitment from a man.

The ideal personality type is Type A/B. Cocky funny Alpha most of the time but open up once in a while and express deeper sentiment.
Type A
The theory describes a Type A individual as ambitious, rigidly organized, highly status conscious, can be sensitive, care for other people, are truthful, impatient, always try to help others, take on more than they can handle, want other people to get to the point, proactive, and obsessed with time management. People with Type A personalities are often high-achieving "workaholics" who multi-task, push themselves with deadlines, and hate both delays and ambivalence.
Type B
The theory describes Type B individuals as a contrast to those with Type A personalities. People with Type B personality by definition generally live at a lower stress level and typically: work steadily, enjoying achievements but not becoming stressed when they are not achieved. Truthfully, I don't really care about the article. Let the betas comfort themselves for being "better", "more caring" and "more emotional". In the meanwhile, their bitches are mine!
