Stomach problems after workout

Stomach problems after workout

After going to the gym my stomach gets upset lately. I am not sure what I am doing wrong..

I think it might have to do with exercising my stomach and legs more, but I am not sure. Coffee seems to increase the problem, so I avoid it.

Also when I stopped working out completely I was okay after a few days again.

Things I am considering:

1. No food for a couple of hours before workout
2. More water before workout
3. Weed after workout (assuming its a stress issue.. heh)

Does any of you have a similar problem and/or any tips for me?

I don't eat before working out. Count me in with the intermittent fasters. I work out in the morning, start eating at noon. I drink a little bit of water before and during the workout, but not much.

Definitely kill the coffee.

When you say upset, do you mean excessive gas, or gastric pain, or abdominal muscle pain?
Do you eat fatty foods late at night?
As part of your post workout diet, try including some high quality yogurt. Yogurt works wonders for my digestion and calming my stomach down when it's acting up.

Try number one. I'd also suggest taking a ginger pill before you go in. Those are great for stomach upset.

Maybe a different food too. If you eat five apples before workout, I don't even know how you canNOT get stomach problem.

And during workout too.

Intestinal pain or cramps?

Pain would be your stomach being to full

Cramps would mean your dehydrated or super low in potassium. Try a banana right before or after you lift.

thanks for the replies.

thedude3737: hm, more like gas and bowels upset, making noises etc.

ill try the no food before workout approach and drinking more water. i usually drink one bottle (1,5 litres) of water during a 60 - 90 minute workout. i dont take breaks between sets and exercises longer than 60 seconds . perhaps ill also lower the intensity a bit.

That's a good amount of water, I don't think you need more than that.

Occasionally I do yoga when I need to work on my flexibility and I notice that it squeezes more "air" out of me than normal stretching. If you're doing movements or ab exercises that involving crunching or twisting your torso and you're full of gas that could be the source of your discomfort. Since I started intermittent fasting I've noticed I've had way less gas. I used to have a bad habit of eating late at night, usually grease ball shit too, and paying for it the next day. If I worked out it would come out in embarrassing situations.

If you're drinking milk immediately before or after a workout, cut it out. Either drink in the morning or couple hours before bedtime.

What do you eat before you workout? How long before eating do you start the workout?

Depending on where your stomach pain is, it can take several hours for a problem food to cause issues.

Depends. If I go in the morning, I eat a slice of bread with ham or maybe an apple and a banana. I drink green tea or coffee, sometimes a can of cola (I know..). If I go in the afternoon or evening, I've probably eaten a lot all day, and probably not entirely healthy things I'm afraid. I am also lactose intolerant, so perhaps the workout is increasing the problems I have with that.

Hm. I guess everyone is different and I have to experiment what works for me.

Ya, clean up that diet. Should sort itself out. Coffee could be the culprit.

I sometimes get runner's diarrhea (look it up) but that's still rare. Apparently it has to do with your intestines being jostled around and such during the run.

Never had issues with weight training though.
