McDonald’s Lays Out Big Growth Plans For Russia And Europe

Here it comes...

"McDonald’s (NYSE:MCD) has partnered with Rosinter to franchise restaurants in Russia. This will be the first time McDonald’s expands in the country through franchising. The company currently has 314 restaurants in the country and plans to add 45-50 each year."

"Apart from McDonald’s, most big fast food players such as Burger King and Subway are looking to expand into Russia with consumers spending more due to rising incomes."

As someone studying Russian and looking forward to future travels, this really pisses me off. FUCK YOU MCDONALDS! I don't eat your shit in the US and I don't need you fattening up every slim beauty across FSU and Europe.

Start learning Russian now and enjoy it while you can. Nothing may change for the next 5 years but eventually every major/2nd tier city will have a McDonalds or Bk on every other block.

Am I making too much of this? What do you think?

You can woo your dates in Russia by taking them there and knowing your way around the menu. Like the guy who orders for his lady in French.

She wants nuggets? Please, the young lady would like the selects. Instant DHV.

Dont blame fat people's choices and habits on anything other than self responsibility.

Sometimes I want a Whopper, Big Mac, or Baskin Robbins. I dont want to have to suffer through some lecture or read a bunch of "nutritional warnings' because some fat idiot cant control his Mcflurry intake. Or have it be illegal nontheless.

It is so surprising to me how so many on this forum will call feminism out for what it really is...but then start shaming all the 'McDonalds' out there for fattening people up.

The FSU should hinder all new foriegn bars opening up for fear of rapent and uncontrolled alcoholism.

This won't change much. I'm in the FSU right now and I see Mc Donalds here, but most women I meet refuse to go there because it's simply unhealthy and they know that being fat will hurt their chance for a good guy even more.

I don't think Mcdonalds is fattening people up here in Serbia. Most of the people I see at McDs are slim.

People in Belgrade walk a lot, they will burn it off in no time. Plus they have good genetics.

Local fast food here is much more popular, street grills serving huge burgers, chicken sandwichs, grilled meats, pizza slices

In fact its shocking that Serbs can consume the amount of fast food that they do and stay slim and fit

It shouldn't be illegal or banned. That's not the point. It's about excessive growth to the point of being on every corner, so the decision to eat a meal with 100g of fat, 80g sugar, and 3000 mg of sodium is cheap and in your face every day 5 or 6 times times just on the walk to work.

There are already 300+ McDonald's in Russia and they are adding 50 more a year. I think that should take care of most guys that want to grab a taste of home once or twice a week. We know how to control ourselves and don't often eat just for comfort.

As for women, we all know that they are the weaker sex, lack capacity to judge good decisions from bad when emotions take over, and they have an incredible ability to rationalize those decisions over and over. Add to this the human craving for fat, sugar, and salt for instant gratification when they are lonely, pissed, tired, etc and you have women that start eating 5 and 6 times a week at old MickeyD's instead of stopping by the grocery store to cook up a small meal at home. This isn't going to turn them all fat overnight, but this isn't as simple as "Don't blame McDonald's for people having no self-control". They have a vested interested in getting as many people in that door as often as possible and they bombard countries with advertising and try to get locations on every fucking corner. I saw 10 ads for every other one just in Argentina last month. They just machine gun every road, billboard, and sign they can find.

You are making the case that only fat idiots will be affected by this, and that limiting excessive expansion is simply inconvenient for the intelligent people that just want a treat every few days or week. You must not be from the US to even consider such a thought. The reality is that the harder you make it for someone to make a healthy choice, or the easier you make it for them to make a poor choice, the more likely that Average Girl will give in. You can be assured that when there are 600, 700, 1000, 1200 locations in a country with vast metropolitan areas, that the average weight of women exposed to these options will increase by a few lbs a year. Eventually, cooking seems like a real chore and the average woman starts feeling okay with being 135+ lbs, which is considered skinny in the US.

That makes sense and I hope it stays that way. It's just that, when you are doubling your number of locations every 5 years in a country, someone is eating that food. Let's say that half of the girls will gain weight and half will be smarter. Either way, the market value of the average attractive woman goes up each year as supply and demand takes over. There are no winners; only more depressed fatter chicks and average ones and better that are harder to get.

Some places are more susceptible to fast food than others.

Baltics, Central Europe - susceptible
Industrial Shithole - not so much

The McDonalds I live near is packed... with thin people. But I understand that further cultural change will also increase their susceptibility.

I find it to be a fascinating social experiment to eat McDonalds in every country I visit. I've found the food there, the way it tastes, and the portion sizes to differ drastically around the world, hell even in the US.

Most Russian's I met in St Petersburg couldn't stand McDonalds. They consider the food sub standard and only ever go there for the novelty factor. I could not see McDonalds having the sort of influence it does in the west in Russia in my lifetime.

McDonalds gets blamed for the obesity epidemic, but Coca-Cola and Starbucks likely deserve as much or more of the blame. High fat high calorie burgers get digested slowly while that 400 calorie Frappuccino goes straight to the muffin top. Once the extra 20 or 30 pounds are added then Mcdonalds and everything else is needed for maintenance to prevent the body from feeling like its going in to starvation mode..

We aren't talking about obesity. The obesity epidemic is peoples' own faults. Anyone with a BMI >30 knows that they are fat and that they should be making healthier food choices. If they go to McDonald's every day or Starbucks or buy cases of Coke, that's their own stupid faults.

We are simply discussing here what happens to a country with a large population of slim, slender females when you bombard them with 2000+ calorie food options 5 times a day and call it McDonalds. It's cheap, its small, it's filling and it's crammed full of fat, sugar, salt and thousand of calories. It's on every f'in corner, on every billboard and right in your face every day. And yes, and they have plenty of free-flowing Coke products and all the McCafe lattes that you can handle. People need to eat, they need to be given healthy food options, they don't need to have shit food thrown in their face all day long.

Replacing one meal a day with McDonalds (Burger, Coke, Fries, pie, etc) is way different than stopping by a Starbucks two or three times a week for a coffee or grabbing a coke at a gas station. Adding 5,000 calories and 300 grams of fat to a woman's diet on a weekly basis will result in weight gain and that doesn't take more than replacing 3 - 4 meals a week. How many times do you think the average person in the U.S. stops by a McDonalds during a week; would it have anything to do with 14,000 locations? Why is it considered normal for a woman to weight 163 lbs at 5'4" in the U.S. when the same girl weighs 125-130 lbs in Russia or the Ukraine?

"According to the Department for Trade and Industry, the average U.K. woman is 5' 3.8" (162 centimeters) tall and weighs 147 pounds (66.7 kilograms). This corresponds to a Body Mass Index of 25.2 kilograms/meters², which is slightly less than the average British man's, and less than the average American female's."

"The average American woman's weight has increased 11 pounds (7%) in the 10 years between the gathering of statistics, while her height has remained about the same (an increase of 0.1 inch or 0.2% taller). Earlier I had reported a weight of 152 pounds (69 kg) and height 5' 3.7" (162 cm). Now, it's 163 pounds (74 kg) and 5' 3.8" (163 cm)."

Probably nothing to worry about.

I don't think it will make much difference. They don't have car culture, spread out suburbs, or big box stores. I never eat at McDonalds stateside, but I ate it all the time when I was in the FSU. And over there I actually lost a lot of weight despite upping my fast food consumption 400%. The average person over there must walk 1.5 hours a day, and when not walking, at least is standing around rather than sitting (standing in the metro, on the bus, on the mini-bus, waiting for the metro, etc). It makes a huge difference. It's not like FSU food is a healthy choice to being with. It ain't Japanese food. It's pork and potatoes with a ton of cheese and cream doused all over it. It's high calorie as hell. You see it catch up to the girls around mid 30s... They say the McDonalds over there uses locally sourced food (I have no idea if this is true or not) that isn't as highly processed as the US version, and the Russians and Ukrainians are always saying that it's all the other processing that makes American food even worse.

I'm only mildly concerned about the food... I'm much more concerned about the export of feminism than McDonalds.

Good points. An active lifestyle definitely helps offset extra calories, while the competition to stay attractive will keep many girls from gaining weight as well. Nothing major changes for 10 years, but it's still not what you want to see happening.

I guess it's just the idea that these fast food restaurants could give a fuck about barging into every country on the planet and shitting 1,000 locations as if the world needs them. I'm tired of turning the corner in every country I visit only to see another goddamn arch with 100 people stuffing their faces. It's based on pure fucking greed and arrogance. I would love to see their definition of locally sourced foods. Nice to hear that they might be processing foods less but it could all just be bullshit.

As for feminists, they have been some of the easiest lays of my life, but also the most disposable of all women, which isn't a bad thing. If you are talking about women with entitlement complexes then that's another story. I do get what you're saying about feminism spreading though, as one day it would be nice to have a few dozen marriage quality women left to choose from.

About 18 months ago a McDonald's opened in my city; far east Ukraine, I dont eat there often, but it sure is a nice change of pace, the place is very clean, free clean bathrooms, a real nice environment, much better customer service than you'll receive at your typical Ukraine cafe, alot of nice looking girls visit the place, never do I eat at McDonalds in the US, but I am glad this one is here.

The US by far had the largest portions. Even after McDonald's knuckled under to pressure from fatties and eliminated the SuperSize portion here, we still have the largest portions not only at McDonald's, but restaurants in general.
