That "last little bit" is not about working out intensely, it all about diet.

NOT putting it in your mouth is the best way to keep it off your belly.

man you cannot throw a rock without hitting an intermittent faster.

I don't get the argument of who benefits from you eating every 3 hours...IF doesn't say to eat less food it says eat during a window for optimal usage whether I agree or not is irrelevant but if you're consuming 3000 cals spaced every 3 hours or 3 k calories in a 6 hour window, it's still 3k cals worth of food. They're making money regardless. I never adjusted to that eating window, I was starving all the damn time and looked flat, I hated the IF plan, each body is different some will adjust better to it than others but it's a shit way to live for me.

It sounds like you are talking about Leangains.com i.e. the "feeding window" post workout and fasted training.... I think he mostly talks about this style of IF to promote lean muscle growth (and also raise HGH levels via fasting).

If you look at someone like Brad Pilon's Eat Stop Eat, it promotes the 24 hr fast 1 or 2 days a week. If you eat normal maintenance on "feeding" days, this is a very effective way to cut calories for the week. Throw in a fat-burner/appetite suppressant such as OxyElite Pro to make the fasting days easier to get through.

I was talking lean gains as in the circles I'm in we're all fitness junkies so that's the program that's in vogue. I'm not a fan of the don't eat plan to lose weight but until I read the book and see the science behind it I don't like to comment so I'll leave it at that but re: leangains, while I get the science behind it I found it counterproductive to results I wanted, i'll have to look into the Brad Pilon book, thanks for the heads up.

If you are trying hard to lose fat and you prior efforts have all failed then you need to count calories.

Just get your body fat analyzed (order an omron scale from amazon; they are accurate enough) and then enter your stats into either calorie calculator:

Easiest, with max fat loss too: just google "The WeighTrainer Weight Loss Calorie Calculator"

Complicated; good if doing leangains: just google "intermittent fasting calculator"

Then just make an adjustable meal plan based on your daily calories and macros. It is much easier said than done, but it gets the job done.

Leangains is more of a convenience thing; not even 1% as important as counting calories and getting enough protein. Basically if it makes your cut easier, then do it, and it if doesn't then don't do it. I personally find it more convenient, so I do it.

I'll +1 the LeanGains program -- just following it very casually for the past month has had a ridiculous effect on my physique.

I'm starting it full steam on May 1st and will be taking regular photos to hopefully show some significant before and after changes.

Cardio makes me fatter (cortisol response) -- I have to keep my heart rate higher, sprints did a fantastic job of shedding some stubborn belly fat. My abs are always visible, but not shredded.

I switch between high saturated fat days (rest days) and high carb days (workout days) and don't have any issues other than the carbs making me tired if I don't push enough iron after breaking my daily fast.

The 16/8 IF fasting/eating window works flawlessly -- I always am clear headed and NEVER hungry until my 1pm eating window opens.

I don't count calories at all -- your body is consuming calories even when you're fasting as it breaks down adipose tissue (or muscle tissue) for caloric conversion to energy, too. Plus, the standard view of 9 calories per gram / 4 calories per gram is "wrong" according to plenty of scientists and doctors I'm affiliated with. I eat until I'm hungry, and I take measurements once a month with a tape measure to see any changes.

There's this $40 book by Lyle McDonald that is expensive, but worth it. It contains the necessary diet and training and supplement protocols that worked out very well for me last summer.

The Stubborn Fat Solution:

This.

Keep in mind, it is only appropriate for the people who it is aimed at: people in low bodyfat percentage ranges with stubborn fat deposits in a few specific areas (stubborn fat as defined by having a different allocation of andrenergic receptors). If you're at 15% bodyfat, the book is not for you. You don't have stubborn fat, you're just fat.

Estrogenic Diet. I start to see my abs definition when I cut all wheat/grain and soy from my diet and eat a lot of anti estrogenic diet. In my case, I eat organic brocolli and organic eggs and New Zealand steak every day. It's fucking expensive diet, I have to tell you that.

Are you still overweight regardless of constant dieting and daily trips to the gym? And if your doctor repeats the same advice about diet and exercise while shaking his head, subtly suggesting you secretly keep a stash of Twinkies in your gym bag, perhaps you should take a look at a diet that's not really a diet at all — the anti-estrogenic diet. Your problem could be that you have a condition called "estrogen dominance." It is caused by your diet, but by a diet high in estrogen, not one high in calories.

Diets high in estrogen create a condition called "estrogen dominance," according to Ori Hofmekler, author of The Anti-Estrogenic Diet. "Estrogen dominance is believed to be responsible for age-related weight gain and metabolic disorders in both men and women," he says. In addition, estrogen dominance has put the human race in deadly danger, Hofmekler warns.

If Hofmekler is correct, we should be more worried about saving the human species than the spotted leopard, because humans are also on the fast track to extinction. In the past 50 years, sperm counts in men have dropped 50 percent, while the average man's testosterone level has plummeted 20 percent in just the last 20 years. Such sharp drops are a wakeup call.

The outlook for women is no better, Hofmekler says, citing figures showing that one-third of women who are now between ages 35 and 60 will develop breast cancer.

"If the human species were an animal, zoologists would look at us and say, ‘This species is about to become extinct. Something is seriously wrong. Let's see what can be done.'"

Study after study indicates that humans face major health problems in terms of cardiovascular disease, arthritis, diabetes, and obesity. The main reason, says Hofmekler, is too much estrogen.

If you think you can't possibly be eating foods loaded with estrogens, you're wrong — dead wrong. Most foods crowding supermarket shelves are estrogenic, according to Hofmekler. Meat and dairy products contain hormones, and vegetables and fruits are covered in pesticides. Once inside the body, they all mimic estrogen, the female hormone that causes estrogen disorders, including breast cancer in women.

And estrogen virtually castrates men.

Synthetic forms of estrogen, called xenoestrogens, are industrial derivatives, and they are found in the air we breathe, cleaning products, lotions and shampoos, water, and foods. Natural estrogens, called phytoestrogens, occur naturally in common foods, herbs, and extracts. When the two are combined in the human body, as they are in today's modern society, they overwhelm the system.

Dr. Russell Blaylock, noted neurosurgeon and author of "The Blaylock Report," agrees. "Hofmekler is absolutely correct when he says that all of us are being exposed to large amounts of estrogenic compounds which are wreaking havoc with our hormone levels," he tells Newsmax Health. "Studies show that xenoestrogens from plastics appear to cause premature menses in young girls. Soy isoflavones appear to increase aggressiveness and heighten antisocial behavior in monkeys, and appear to feminize male animals.

"As Hofmekler points out, obesity also raises estrogen levels. I think the dramatic increase in benign breast disease (fibrocystic disease) as well as some breast cancers, is the result of too much estrogen. Studies have shown that genistein from soy increases the growth and invasion of breast cancer."

Although the foods we eat have changed — from seeds, nuts, beans, fish, and fruits to heavily processed foods filled with additives — our bodies haven't. We're modern men in suits and ties still living in a caveman's body.

According to Hofmekler, we have never adapted to such a surplus of estrogen in our food, so we're slowly eating ourselves into extinction. "That's the bad news," he says. "The good news is that man has amazing survival mechanisms that have helped him survive incredibly hard conditions such as famine, plague, and moving from one area of the world to another. But our survival mechanisms are not being triggered today because we live in a world that is totally different from the rugged world our bodies are adapted to. Instead, they remain dormant."

The key to triggering your body's survival mechanisms is to adopt an anti-estrogenic diet. This is not an ordinary diet, Hofmekler emphasizes. Most diets are restrictive and don't offer real solutions because they don't take the effects of estrogenic foods into account. In addition, many diet products contain soy protein and other estrogen-promoting ingredients that leave our bodies bloated and sick.

An anti-estrogenic diet is simple and delicious. It has three main points:

• Eat lower down on the food chain. Eat foods that are more in tune with our genetic makeup such as fruits, vegetables, beans, roots, nuts, seeds, eggs, dairy, and wild-caught fish.

• Minimize foods treated with chemicals. Eat as much organic food as possible, and avoid synthetic vitamins.

• Supplement your diet with nutrients that support your hormones. The flavones chrysin, apigenine, quercetin, and narigenin all inhibit estrogen, as well as the indoles: indole 3 carbinol, diindolymethane (DIM), and indole 3 acetate.

Hofmekler's anti-estrogenic diet consists of a three-week jump-start program. The first week is a liver detoxification program that will cleanse your liver and enhance its functioning to create an environment that will allow your body to efficiently metabolize fats and carbohydrates for energy.

Phase I relies on fresh fruits and vegetables (heavy on crucifers such as broccoli), low-fat yogurt, fertile eggs, beans, whole grains, wild-caught fish and aged cheese, and prepares the body to switch from fuel based on carbohydrates to fuel based on fat. "Most people can tell a difference by the end of only one week," says Hofmekler.

Phase II emphasizes eating foods that promote anti-estrogenic hormones (progesterone in women and testosterone in men). Raw nuts, seeds, and olives are added to the diet as the body shifts from carbohydrate-based to fat-based fuel.

Phase III introduces meats, breads and pastas to the diet, but only in the evening meal and only on alternate days. Rotate phase III days with days of Phase I or II.

After reintroducing meats to your diet, remember when making food choices that food from the bottom of the food chain will probably be better for your body than a food from the top.

Far from being a calorie-curbing, austere diet, the anti-estrogenic diet offers possibilities for a variety of delicious foods that probably include your favorite dishes — with a few substitutions. For example, substituting soy oil with olive oil changes an ingredient from estrogenic to anti-estrogenic. And regardless of your ethnic background, anti-estrogenic foods fit right in. "Generally, any ethnic recipe based on fresh vegetables or cooked crucifiers is anti-estrogenic," says Hofmekler, whose website, http://www.defensenutrition.com, provides more information on the diet.

Be patient, says Hofmekler, and even the most stubborn fat, including estrogen-sensitive belly fat, will eventually melt away.

Two footnotes:

• While you're losing fat, you may be gaining hair! A study at North Carolina State University found that shaven mice given an estrogen blocker grew a full coat of hair in four weeks, while those given estrogen remained bald and only 20 percent of mice given neither drug had re-grown all of their hair.

• Scientists are developing anti-estrogen drugs to treat cancer. "Anti-estrogens have been shown to prevent breast cancer in some women," Jill Siegfried, a professor in the department of pharmacology and chemical biology at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, said in an American Association for Cancer Research news release.

No BS tips for getting rid of stubborn baby fat?

OK, OK. Ignore most of this thread. Let me tell you how I got rid of my baby fat. I did it when I was a teenager and it wasn't due to me watching my diet, or balancing food groups or anything like that.

One summer I basically spent all of my time indoors and playing videogames in my room. It was a smelly, lonely existence that I'm not proud of. I only ate when my parents brought me food (sometimes only once or twice a day) and I never snacked. However, I did drink a shit load of Pepsi Max. This probably helped with the weight loss in retrospect.

As a result of this I dropped about two sizes on my waist (four inches) without even trying over the course of about five weeks.

Nowadays I'm not that much into videogames at all really. I only play them socially. But I've managed to keep the weight off even years later (just about).

So my solution would be to find something you really, really enjoy doing. Make sure you enjoy doing it so much that you forget to eat. And drink Pepsi Max.

Dude, the OP just wants to lose some extra weight and he already exercises regularly. Do you seriously think he's going to bother messing around with complicated diets and spending riches on organic eggs and steak? Fuck no. He just wants something simple that will work. I told him something simple that worked for me.

Get your head out of your arse.

Adjusting your diet will make you lose weight faster the the best workouts. But of course that's easier said than done. You have to be in the right mental state to lose and keep off the lost weight or its all for naught. You really need to want to lose weight more than you want anything else. More that that delicious food or whatever it is that is calling out to you.

Another thing that I do is never eat for pleasure at a time that you regularly eat, like your lunch break or any other regular time. Try limiting eating for pleasure for isolated social times. Also try thinking about every calorie that you eat is like money and that you only have so much to spend in a day. Another good thing is to start surrounding yourself with beautiful people or at least people that are in shape. You will naturally start living in a way to make yourself look better. Its sounds cheesy but its true.

I'm sure there are plenty of guys around here that can give you specifics on what to eat. All I know is that you should stay the hell away from McDonalds or any thing like it and really try to stay away from fried foods and lots of breads and sugars. Try not to keep fatty snacks around the house and stay away from non-diet soft drinks. I personally recommend Powerade Zero for a sport drink, it tastes good and has zero calories.

But remember the best diet knowledge in the world is useless without the proper mind set.
