Best website for Blogs

I've been told several times that I should start a blog but I never thought I'd have the time.

Having a smartphone and a lot of free time makes it seem worth it now.

Anyone have any tips on blogs and setting them up??

But really, I have a bunch of stuff I do.
Bodybuilding, Cooking, Travel, Game,

On second thought...its best not to post your life on the internet...I'm doing too much of that already.
Might have to find a way to anonymize more.

Some things I've picked up in the few months I've been blogging:

- Stories and "how to" posts seem to be more popular than opinion or analysis posts.
- Use aggregators. I'm on Delusion Damage and In Mala Fide's "linkage is good for you". I also occasionally get put on In Bona Fide. IBF gives me the most traffic but the other two are also great.
- When using aggregators, a cool title is what gets people to bother reading your shit, so pick titles that people can't resist reading.
- Write well, but accept that your early shit will suck and it takes time to get better.
- Use StatCounter. I thought I was bossing until i realised that over 75% of my visits last less than 5 seconds. Got that figure down to ~60% since using statcounter. The visit time feature is the most objective indicator of your writing quality.
- Use twitter, forums and comments on other blogs to promote, but don't just toot your own horn, add value.

Don't start a game blog. Everyone on earth has a game blog - I'm pretty sure my mom runs one.

The key to getting traffic and any sort of real readership to a blog is by having solid, readable content and a unique perspective. Think for a good while about what exactly makes your blog different and unique, think about what a good niche for you would be, and then write in that area.

Buy a .com domain, cheap Hostgator hosting and install wordpress on it. Delusion damage even has a moron friendly tutorial that can get you up and running in 15 minutes.

Wordpress if you can be arsed messing around with it.

Otherwise Blogger.com is one of the most user-friendly ones. Squarespace is also good, cheap and customisable, but I recommend a designer.

Examples of Squarespace.

Or if you do write about game, write from a fresh perspective. The internet doesn't need more info on approaching a girl and introducing yourself, but fresh game ideas are good.

An example of this approach is University of Man.
