If you're ever in the Raleigh area and want to learn how to shoot, hit me up

I figured I'd throw this out there for guys who've don't own any firearms and would be interested in learning about guns. You will find that, contrary to the anti-gun media spin, guns don't shoot themselves and most gun owners are friendly people and are eager to share their love of firearms.

If you're not in my area, and are interested, I'd urge you to get in touch with gun owning friends or even acquaintances. Heck, you could even sign up on a gun forum in your area and ask if someone would be willing to take you shooting. Like I said, most lawful gun owners are friendly and enthusiastic about introducing others to firearms - so don't feel like you would be imposing on them. Only thing they'd probably ask is that you pitch in for ammo that you're going to shoot (in many states, you can just buy the ammo at Walmart), and range fees if applicable.

Much like feminism, gun control is all about pretty lies, half-truths and distortions. Growing up in NYC, I bought into the lies the feminists and anti-gunners were peddling. Just as this forum exposes guys to the truth about women and feminism, I'd love to show guys the truth about guns, which the media works overtime to hide.

Plus, knowing how to operate a firearm is a good life skill for a man to have, aside from the fact that shooting is just plain fun.

This is a standing offer to guys who've been at RVF for some time (no newbs until I know you're legit), so hit me up anytime.

Absolute essential skill. I have a M&P 15 that sits by my bed with quick change mag pair in it at all times. Some people tell me the .22 wont do shit for home defense. If someone is not fucked up and khat or something like that, a .22 round is going to momentarily stop them at the very least. Once I get that first round on target, I got about 50 more rounds waiting to follow it. I need to invest in a good tactical shotty.

If I had a family I would probably look into those rounds that are designed to fracture and not penetrate sheetrock. You know anything about those?

God'll prolly have me on some real strict shit

Yeah, .22lr is mostly scorned by internet warriors, but the reality is that none of those guys wants to get shot with a .22. That said, the round does have significant limitations, but then again, so do all common handgun rounds. If one shot incapacitation is what you want, you gotta go shotgun or rifle. Still, if I had only one home defense firearm and could only stick with handgun ammo, I'd want something more powerful than a .22. If someone breaks into your home with layers of clothing, there's no guarantee that a .22 is going to make it through the layers and still get deep enough into flesh to stop a determined attacker. Sure, if you empty your mag, they're going down, but they may get a shot off in the meantime.

I've heard a lot of good things about the M&P 15-22. I'm keeping my eye out for a deal on one of those. In addition to be being fun to shoot, and cheap to train on if you have an AR15/M4, seems like those would be a great way to introduce new shooters to rifles.

Mossy 500, Remington 870 Express are good basic shoguns. Of course, sky's the limit in terms of tacticooling it. Still need to get a light for mine.

I don't know much about ballistics, but anything that can knock down an attacker is going to go through sheetrock. That said, bullet technology has come a long way over the years, and there's a lot of good self defense ammo that reliably expands and that will limit overpenetration. And remember that every interior wall is 2 layers of drywall. It's also a good idea to familiarize yourself with the likely lines of fire you'd use in a home defense scenario to limit the possibility that a miss would strike a family member or neighbor.

I've read a lot of stories about home defense, and I can't remember the last time I read about overpenetration resulting in accidental death at the hand of the homeowner. Not saying it couldn't happen, but with modern ammo, and training, a lot of things would have to go wrong for that to happen.

It is terrifying to think what a Ruger 10-22 with a stack of 30 rd. Ramlines could do in medium/ close quarters. In the hands of a trained pro, of course.

Ali, what's your take on the Ruger 10-22 vs. M&P 15-22? I like the fact that the M&P can be used to cheaply train for AR15/M4 use (nutnfancy has a good review on this). But in an extended SHTF/WROL scenario, it would be easier to find parts for the Ruger since it seems they are nearly ubiquitous.

I have no business with S&W after they sold out the firearms market years ago, and immediately sold my 629 .44. There is nothing you can't do with a Ruger 10-22.

The first conversion I found on Google. Good for AR-15 training, although the .223 isn't something you need to step up to.

The 10-22 can be built to tack driving accuracy:

So yeah, I've owned a 10-22 since high school, and it has morphed into several rifles. One of my all time favorites.

I think a lot of people feel that Bill Ruger did the same back in the early 90s.

LOL. I didn't realize you could tacticool a 10-22 to this extent.

I got a bunch of different 500's. It's what I had the most training with in the Navy.

On my boats I keep Mariners for the basics and for line launchers.

Whatever you guys do, DO NOT buy Benelli M4's.

I got an M4 H20, and I'm unable to tell any difference whatsoever between it and the 500 Mariner.

Maybe three times a week I shoot lines for fishing. On top of that I'll snag a shark maybe once a week, so I've maybe used the thing 50 to 55 times, tops. Still, it was not worth 2 grand, when the Mariners are only 500 dollars.

Hey assman, that's a real nice offer, mahalo.

Aloha!

The Benelli M4 is semi-automatic, right? That right there is a big price jump.

Yeah, for home defense, I'd go simple pump action. Better yet, go with an AR. Superior to a shotgun for home defense in just about every aspect.

Thanks Kona. I'm always game to take newbs shooting. One range trip will undo much of the media brainwashing about guns that most people are subjected to their entire lives.
