Interesting. The obvious difference for me was hair/skin. Hot water dries your scalp and skin out. During the winter time everybody has drier skin so I would say that even though it can be brutal, a cold shower in the winter is extremely beneficial. This is also a natural cure for dandruff so you dont have to use shampoos with tons of chemicals.

I just took an ice-cold shower after work, then went for a run. I must say, I felt like I had WAY more energy and proceded to run like a mad bull for 20 minutes straight, then got lost for 40 minutes but ran the whole time. Eventually I found my way home. I am a bit out of shape so this was a huge difference for me in terms of my energy level. I ran once last week after work, but I had way less energy.

I think this cold shower thing has a lot to it. I used to take really long, hot showers where I would basically just stand there and do nothing while semi-scalding hot water dripped down my scalp. Nowadays, when I take the cold shower it is usually ice cold and only about 5 minutes. I come out feeling stronger, more masculine, and ready to approach like my life depended on it.

This has helped my skin tremendously. My back and chest were pretty broken out for years from sweaty workouts, shaving, and sensitive skin in general; I was nearly 100% clear after just a few days and stayed that way. I haven't turned the hot water on in my shower for about a month now. Also, as mentioned, huge energy boost.

The only problem is I never look forward to showering anymore [Image: undecided.gif].

Seems like the rewards far out weigh the con of not looking foward to showers

Hot to cold is basically the same principle that atheltic trainers use in collegiate and professional sports. You start off in the hot tub then switch to the cold tub and you can do this several times. It expands and contracts your blood vessels which creates a pumping effect to rehab fatigued/sore/damaged muscles. The athletic trainers I have talked to have advised to always finish cold but I am not sure the exact reasoning...and make note that athletic trainers are not the same as personal trainers. One requires a four year degree and the other requires a certificate that can be completed online.

You also won't waste anytime more time than necessary in the shower.

Cold showers are a true secret weapon. Costs nothing, takes no extra time, yet give you a lift better than almost anything else. I'm a believer.

Im still sold on showers that are cold (you like my rhymes) Now that im back in the states I can make the water much colder then I could overseas, plus its not as hot an tropical outside as it was overseas.

An I am in no way shape or form in the shower any longer then necessary now.

I have mild manic depression (undiagnosed cyclothymia) and have found that cold showers greatly reduces all symptoms, both manic and depressive. I used to have it pretty bad in high school and am happy that I never did anything really stupid beyond run off at the mouth for two or three weeks at a time.

Did some research on it and found that some theories on bipolar disorder believe that it is triggered by a "lack of thermal stress". Many test subjects also reported significantly fewer symptoms once they were introduced to cold water therapy. This thread should probably be stickied.

There is also nothing better than a cold shower and a hot meal after a lifting or training session. Any soreness or inflammation you might have is completely gone afterwards.

Been doing this for awhile now. It works well for muscle fatigue and soreness...positively rejuvenating. I still take an occasional hot shower, but mostly I like 'em cold.

I just jump under the shower head, turn on the cold full blast and have the breath sucked out of me for a moment.

I've come to relish the shock.

Random trivia- in all the James Bond novels Bond always takes a scalding hot shower to start with before finishing up with freezing cold water for a few minutes.

Living in a number of third word countries and being poor as shit growing up, I've taken so many cold showers it doesn't really bother me too much anymore beyond being a mild inconvenience.

I been getting back into cold showers.. honestly I just couldnt seem to force myself to take a cold shower in the winter...
Now I usually hop in a cool shower right after my workout. Then right before I get out I make it really cold and stand in it long as possible. I certainly feel refreshed and ready to go when I get out.

This New years day I was hung over as fuck and jumped in the ocean... That shits pretty freezing in January. I tell you what tho, when I got out an toweled off there was no hang over and I felt like I was ready to run a 10k

If your gym has a sauna or steam room, do this:

1. Go into sauna until you're super hot.
2. Jump into a shower set to cold.
3. Alternate between 1 and 2.

That reduces muscle soreness like you wouldn't believe.

I do 100 push ups and 100 sit ups every morning. A cold shower seems like a perfect complement to that. I'm sold.

My worry is about winter.

I think the trick in winter is have a warm bedroom to come back into. Like even a fan heater so your skin instantly gets warm air on it.

Also, you want to warm up again before you go outside. Dont cold shower then be out the door in 3 mins into the freezing cold. That said cold showers = awesome though.
