I just got out of class and I'm supposed to work 2pm to 10pm. I rarely call into work, however, it is an amazing day and I have a lot of personal stuff that I need to do like laundry, homework, read rooshs' new book, start lifting again, etc. So I need a good excuse that sounds legitimate.

My favorite excuse (which earned me 0 brownie points) was when my dad took me to a drag racing event. I called my job from inside the track and told them I was at a drag race and couldn't make. Atleast I was honest

Anyways, for those who share my belief that sometimes you need to take a personal day, what do you tell your boss? I don't want to say I'm sick because ill show up tomorrow with a nice tan and a new haircut.

Ummm...here's a crazy idea. How about the truth like a man? Call your supervisor and say you have personal issues that cannot wait, and you must sort out. You don't have to give low-level details, but it beats a bullshit lie.

Exactly. In some places higher ups will not look with favor on subordinates that are more man that they are, but fuck them. In the long run it pays off to be straight with people. This world would be a better place if people were straight more often.

I agree, but the modern American worker has no job security, if he's gotten more then one raise they'll look for a reason to fire him and bring in cheaper help. Being honest is no longer the best policy (if it ever truly was)

I'm with Chad on this.

Tell them a close member of the family died. Ymmv but I've never had anyone question my relation to the deceased. They just give condolences and say ok and never question you about. For increased effect wear all black the next day you come into work(I'm serious).

I used to say a relative was terminally ill and recovered so I can re-use them but mgmt can view you as a liability(He's takes so much time off to care for his sick uncle).

I believe that too many people think that mgmt/hr, etc are looking out for them but in reality a company can/will fabricate reasons to fire people. 3 keys to a lie are 1) Sensationalize, 2) Rehearse, 3) Rehearse more.

He said that his mom was in a car crash where her car flipped three times. He was living the lie that Chad was talking about.
