Cheapest House Rent Rate in Eastern Europe?

Cheapest House Rent Rate in Eastern Europe?

In the United States, some of the cheapest places to rent a house are Wichita Kansas, where houses on the low end go for 400-500 a month.

I'm interested to know really cheap places to rent a house in Eastern Europe? What area has the cheapest rates?

I've talked to people who live in the capital of Slovenia, and they say rent is high just for an apartment. But can you rent a house an hour or so from town for a good price?

I'm especially interested in rates of 200 american dollars a month or lower for a house on its own lot.

Split Croatia (on the Adriatic coast) is an area that interests me, as well as Ukraine, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia.... Pretty much any information of renting anywhere in EE would be very appreciated.

on a related note, what is car ownership and insurance like in Eastern Europe?

You won't find anything in Split for that price. For $200 you are probably looking at villages or small towns.

How about an hour or less away from Split?

Zadar?

Are there sites in Eastern Europe equivalent to Craigslist in America where people tend to post stuff?

I'm sure it helps to actually speak croatian. I may contact people on couchsurfing. Ukraine and the West Slavic countries are interesting prospects.

I'm currently in the Philippines, and you can get a house here for 50 bucks a month out in farm land, and a furnished monthly apartment for 200 bucks, or a regular apartment for about 50 bucks. I was just wondering what the "second world" tends to go for when you get outside of 1st tier cities.

I know the Croatian coast is more desirable. Anybody know anything about slavic cities near the german/austrian border? The middle of poland? Near Lviv, Ukraine?

I'm not sure about houses, as they tend to vary in size dramatically, but a good (one bedroom or studio) apartment in the center of Split costs about 200€ per month, and a similar apartment in Solin (about 10 km away from Split, near the Kaštela Bay) can be found for as little as 110€.

p.s. it's also in Croatian, but njuškalo.hr , oglasnik and plavi oglasnik are all pretty good sources. There are also plenty of agencies that could do that for you without charging too much.

It's possible outside of Lviv, Lviv itself is mostly apartments.

I think in Croatia it would have to be a real shithole if it's anywhere near the coast.

Croatia's a pretty boring place outside high season. Serbia is much better, you can get something in Serbia for that money, on the outskirts of a second tier city perhaps.

Forget Montenegro, Russians have bought everything

Thanks guys. Damn, 110 euro for a pad near Split is pretty good, coming from an American from the west coast. There's nothing like that.

Deb, Serbia on the whole is cheaper than Croatia? What's a good second tier city?

Well away from the coast then maybe its about the same.

Novi Sad is the second largest city in Serbia, although I have never partied there, the nightlife is supposed to rival that of Belgrade, and Belgrade nightlife is epic.

Are you talking about long-term lease of an empty apartment or month-to-month that is short term with everything included?

I'm interested in houses in particular that you can rent, not necessarily month to month or furnished. I just want to know what the possibilities are, budget wise, for renting a house in Eastern Europe and how low it can potentially go.

I would be interested in knowing what I could get including a utilities, a rough idea of what it would cost, both rent and utilities.

Ultimately the question is, what is the overall cost of living in certain Eastern European countries, including car, gas, renting a house and eating most meals in, etc.

I'd also check out Bulgaria. Real estate has usually been cheaper there even though it's the EU. You can find a dump and live in the capital for 150 euros. That's for a flat, I don't know for houses. Long-term leases: sign it, and to leave.. just break it.

150 for a flat in the capital of Bulgaria? That's a promising sign.

Anybody know about budget ballin' in belarus?

But what are you actually looking for Rurik? why the need to live in the cheapest possible place?

Why you want to leave the Phillipines?

If you are gaming, then a tumbledown shack in the heart of Croatia/Serbia/Ukraine etc is not going to moisten the local ladies!

I'm currently traveling around the world on a small passive income, and am looking for cheap ways to mini-retire. I'm not just looking for a game pad. I just like space and am wondering what possibilities there are. I also play music.

There are plenty of reasons to leave the Philippines.

Ok I see.

Well i'm guessing if you're prepared to spend $200 on rent, then you're income is in the $600-$800 range.

Are you not interested in making more money?, it's never been easier to make a living overseas.

How much for a decent apartment in Ukraine?

I was in Kiev and payed 100 USD per month, but it was just a rented room in someones house and not very nice either.

200 usd will get me something decent in Lviv, yes?

In Poland I have a large place right near downtown for a little over 300 USD.

Depends whether you want to live in the very centre or not.

An apartment in the very centre with one bed, one living room can be had for about $400.

Well I can only speak for vivL

You can get an apartment for $200, it will be a studio and probably 10-15 mins walk from very centre.

Utilities are peanuts here, especially now the end of winter is in sight.

You have to be careful with landlords/agents here though, they are mostly scum-bags. Rental agreements aren't worth the paper they're written on. The agencies generally charge one months rent as a fee. Almost everyone I know has had problems with landlords here, including me.

The studio thing sounds decent. My room in Poland is way too big which raises the heating costs. Turns out, electricity in Poland is actually more expensive than the US(56 cents vs 44)
and I had electric heaters.

I agree with the land lords being scum bags, always got to watch out for them. If there is a problem, best to cut your losses, pay, and move out asap. It only gets worse if you stay on.

In Bratislava, Slovakia, the rent is quite high, I would say more than most US cities - my parents are renting out a one bedroom apartment not too far from the Old town for 600 EUR. It could be less in the suburbs. In the smaller cities/towns it would be much less, perhaps half.

I've been chillin with a Bulgarian model lately. She was telling me you can buy houses out there for just over $30k and rent out the same house for about $4-500 a month. That sounds a little too good to be true to me. She's talking a decent 3 bedroom house too. I'd have to see it to believe it.

My budget currently is about 1000 a month.

I'm working on expanding upon my business, but for the mean time it's pretty low, though location independent.

you're saying 200 dollars for an apartment in Lviv? What's a decent apartment in Kiev? And are you aware of any month to month, fully furnished apartments in either?

I am on a similar budget. In Belgrade Serbia you can live decent on that price. I live on about 1500 a month but I never eat in and go out to bars quite a lot.

I found a place in Tallinn, Estonia for 160 euro a month. Yes, it's a studio and it's about 6km from the city. Add on 90 euro (30ish in summer) for utilities in the winter (heating, electricity, water)
