Tonight while finding a place to park, I got into an actual honest to god Seinfeldian parallel parking standoff. I was George...who was in the right, I mean backing into a spot is the correct method after all...

But seriously, I can't believe the bitch was actually willing to sit there for about 15 min hoping I'd give up and take off first. She didn't even take off when I got out of the car to gesticulate angrily at her. Talk about entitlement.

I may have showed up to my date late, but winning the standoff was more important. Plus I was more pumped from that little victory in life.

Personally, I find it a bit "unmanly" to leave someone waiting to pit your ego against a psycho bitch over a parking spot. Sure, in the moment hold your ground, but when it comes down to messing up your plans to prove a point, it's getting ridiculous. There are way too many off-kilter people in the world to take a "stand" against, and if you live that way you'll be doing that shit over stupid things way too often.

Choose your battles. Sometimes it really doesn't matter and you just have to let it go - don't let pride or emotions get in the way of living well.

If a victory over a parking spot does it for you, fine, but I'd argue that you should find your times to take life that seriously elsewhere.

By the way, I think Seinfeld imitates life and not the other way around. George's character is a superficial, shallow fool who has a good point from time to time but puts himself in bad situations for petty reasons. He usually loses, and that's the point. Not exactly a character to emulate in your everyday life, IMHO.

Well, she did refuse to get out of her car or even roll down the window to discuss the issue, so I assume she did fear violence on some level. Of course if she were smarter she would have thought of the possibility that I'd go Walter on her car with a tire iron.

And he didn't say he's emulating George, he just pointed out the funny congruence this encounter had.

I can't believe you're saying the guy acted "unmanly" by standing up to some self entitled bitch. What's unmanly to me is following the advice you're giving. If you do that, you're willing to be shit on by anyone that has the will to assert themselves.

He did "choose" his battle, he decided not to be bullied out of a parking spot that proper manners say he had the right to.

OP did the absolute right thing and I commend you for it. This isn't a matter of "picking your battles".. this was a blatant show of disrespect by another commuter. As someone who has a history of crucial road rage, I always like to see someone honoring the unwritten rules of the road and checking the assholes who violate them. Good job.

Guess it's just a point where the line between alpha and beta is a bit nebulous. Throwing a tantrum over perceived slights is indeed unmanly (especially when most of the time the person who insulted you didn't even do it intentionally). But this was a pretty direct case of "fuck you I do what I want" attitude, so I wasn't going to budge.

I pulled something similar a few years back at the beach. It was a crowded summer day and me, my baby momma and my boy were cruising around trying to find an open spot to park. I spotted one and hopped out of the car to stand in the spot and hold it while she did a quick lap around the block. Some guy in a huge pick up tries to pull in as I'm standing there and starts telling me to move. I tell him I'm holding the spot for a minute while my girl turns the car around to park. He's fuming at that point. Yelling and cursing at me about how I can't hold a spot like that and that he's gonna go get a cop. I'm like ...yell all you want pall I'm not moving for you. What's a cop gonna do arrest a couple with a baby stroller cause some fat angry fuck is pissed off about a parking space? Doubtful. I held strong and called his bluff. He moved on with his pathetic life.

Somerthing like this happened to me a while back at the mall. I turned the corner and someone was backing out of a spot up front so I started waiting. A lady on her cell phone in a suv came from the other direction but I didnt think she would try to cut in front of me. I started turning in the lines and she hit the gas trying to boss hog her way in. I had to pump my brakes and we were both just sticking in the space about to collide. I stared at her and screamed what the fuck but she couldnt hear me lol. She kept talking om the phone like nothing because she assumed I was going to back out so I held down the horn for about 10 seconds. She threw her hands up and almost hit me, the car parked next to her and people walking while she backed up like a bat out of hell.

I dont even like driving anymore because theres so many idiots on the road. I was on the feeder today and some guy in a truck got over in my lane without looking and would of hit me if I didnt slam on my brakes. I honked and he gave me the finger right before he got on the entrance ramp knowing I couldnt get over in time and follow him lol.
