I just spent two weeks in Salvador. I'm not usually into black girls in America, but I saw plenty in Salvador that I wanted to bang. True, there's lots of busted chicks but overall it was pretty good. If you go to the nicer clubs it's a mix of everything white, brown and black so you can take your pick. I actually think that in the clubs the hottest girls I saw were brown and black, the white girls didn't do nothing for me though I usually prefer darker skinned chicks.

In two weeks I got one bang and three make outs and lots of crazy nights. Don't forget that there are a ton of Brazilian tourists from other parts of the country and they usually act crazy on vacation.

And it's hard to give a racial mix breakdown but if I had to guess I'd say its 40% black, 40% mixed, and 20% white. It is dependent on the area though.

How was the safety issue, did you stay in the Pelherino (sp/?), or in the suburb Barra?

In Roosh's guide to the NorthEast, he made Salvador sound super sketchy and dangerous.

I've been to Rio and I thought the safety issues were over-hyped, can you shed some light on the scene in Salvador. Did you ever feel unsafe, did you walk the streets at night, etc.?

The Pelherino is really sketchy. Even though there's lots of cops in the tourist areas you still get pestered by annoying kids who are strung out on god knows what (glue? heroin?). There's all sorts of mega fucked up ppl there. I actually got mugged there one night at like 4 am but I was wasted beyond belief and they only got like $1.

I also stayed in Barra, it's MUCH less shady but even at night near the beach I was told not to walk and I know ppl who got mugged there but he was walking home at like 5 am. Still, much safer than Pelherino.

So overall Salvador is not the safiest place but I think it isn't as bad as the hype. The thing is lots of tourists just go to the Pelhorino for a few days. They are totally amazed at how many shady characters are around there and then they think the entire city sucks. Truth is that it's the third biggest city in Brazil and you can't just judge it on the Pelhorino. It's still worth a visit IMO.

I love Salvador. I am pretty sure that on my next trip to Brazil, I will spend much more time in Salvador than Rio or Sao Paulo.

After reading all this posts, I decided to leave Europe in 2 weeks and cross the ocean, so my question is which place would you recommend:
Cuba or Salvador da Bahia?
Till now I´ve heard mixed reviews. Some say Cuba is too peaceful to go party with friends others that in Salvador da Bahia most of the girls will ask you money after you talk with them for more than 5 minutes.
My first option is Salvador because it´s Brasil, but the idea of having a similar experience like the one I had in Riga makes me wonder.
There´s also Punta Cana, but the first two are looking better.
Rio was my first option but it´s too expensive for my budget, as for all other countries in S. America.

I've been to Salvador, Bahia. Haven't been to Cuba.

Salvador is very dangerous, much more dangerous than Cuba as far as I know. You'll be ok more or less in Pelorinho with police patrols everywhere, but don't walk anywhere else after dark.

Language barrier is an issue in Salvador. Very few people speak English.

If i were you i would also consider Colombia - Medellin and Bogota, or would probably just go to Cuba before it gets too spoiled by foreign tourists.

I stayed in both Pelorinho and Bahia. A lot more cops and crooks in Pelo compared to Bahia. Bahia seems ok during the day. At night, there are only a couple of clubs there, one of them is a guy club. Actually, there is a cluster of night clubs in a different part of Salvador - a taxi ride there costs like 30 reais if i remember correctly.

Been way too often in Salvador. My argentinian future ex-wife worked there (happily, at the Club Med on Itaparica island, so I didn't have to go too often in town) and I visited her at least four times a year during three years before we got married. I really hate the place, which is overpriced, very ugly as soon as you leave the Pelourinho area, rather dangerous, dirty and too stretched to navigate easily (some 30 km from Pelourinho to Itapoa). Also Salvador tries hard to be a giant "Black Disneyland" theme park for white tourists from southeast Brasil, from Argentina and from Europe (some two millions inbound tourists, plus some five millions national tourists visit Salvador each year), and all that pseudo-cultural BS for mass tourism is not only annoying, but also grotesque. Salvador is anything but authentic.

The only thing that is great in Salvador is the food, I am salivating just thinking at the bahianese "moqueca de siri e camarao" (that said, the moqueca capixaba - from Vitoria - is maybe even better).

Sao Luis, which has also a beautiful restored historic district and very nice beaches, is MUCH more enthralling, authentic and interesting, and is still untapped - and is safer also.

Rio and Sao Paulo can still have women with more (of course not N.American level) western mindset. In Salvador, the women are a less urban-thinking than the Rio/Sao Paulo chicks.

Now, for me?...I like the looks for Salvador chicks because I am into black women (or mid-to-darker complexion women). Yes, Salvador can be as dangerous as Rio but I do not venture into those places just like I won't in DC.

What's the deal with Morro de Sao Paulo island off the coast of Salvador, anyone been there and can break down the scene, could it be a decent place to pick up women? I'm thinking about heading back to Brazil next winter and want to branch off from Rio, Salvador seems more appealing to me than Florianapolis because the prices are cheaper and women are supposed to be easier to hook up with. From Salvador I could do side trips to go hiking in Chapada Diamanta park (Lencois) and check out Morro de Sao Paulo which kind of looks like a paradise spot from the pictures and is supposed to have a decent party scene as well.

I think that has already happened, tons of desperate Canadian dudes go there for cheap women.

My vote is Bahia.

I lived 6 months in Salvador in a good high class neighborhood in a rich white girl's family.

I really don't like Salvador (dirty beaches, shitty infrastructure, arrogant mindsets) and it's dangerous as fuck. The girls of this family were mugged in the streets many times per month by black children or teenagers with knifes or broken bottles.

The city is like 90% black but blacks who hate whites...

If you like black girls (which I do too), some cheap safe African countries (Ghana, Togo, Bénin, Burkina Faso, etc.) where Africans actually like white tourists are ten times better....

Or the black and morena girls in more civilized cities of Brazil.

Cuba on the other hand, I liked. I rented a car in Havana and drove around non stop for 3 days there a few years ago (all girls were hitch hiking their way in town). So I collected a lot of numbers and did great there (I don't know if the hitch hiking is still going on).

The night life at that time (2000) was shit. Only hardened pros... Normal girls would do "matinées", i.e. clubs open on weekends in the afternoon but I didn't go to these places not really open to tourists. Only to some salsa clubs where it was very hard to score

I met a few when I went, they had to travel through Mexico or Canada. This was like ten years ago and even then it felt like it was played out.

I was in a town just outside Havana, don't even know the name of it. It was a crummy 2 star hotel that was all-inclusive, the food sucked badly.
The beach was nice, I believe it was the closest beach to the city. I met an English dude there and we took a taxi back to his hotel in Havana, there was a sea of people walking into the city and I must say it was quite the distance. It was at least a 30-45 minute journey by car, I guess people could not afford to take the bus.
Girls were decent, I met a chinese cuban girl with big breasts.
The guy I went with was a full on beta, he had met some local girl there and visited the place six times in one year.
I also know a dude that just imported a girl from there into Canada, he swears she is special.
