I saw this film in my mid teens.I remember identifying a lot with Travis even then, living in the big city sometimes feeling alone with 1000's of people around.
In this scene he begins to break out of his isolation before it all heads south into madness.
How do you rate his pick up?...I thought pretty direct, appeals to her emotions, playful.
Paul Schrader, the writer, wrote it soon after going through what I think he termed "white boy blues", that big city isolation, talking to yourself loneliness ,which is pretty common I think.
He wrote a film with same themes in the 90's called Light Sleeper with Willem Dafoe, playing a NYC drug courier.
