Nice post DC, agree about water over juice fasts. How do you find muscle mass retention after the 5-7 day water fast? Lose alot or not too bad?
Theoretically a coconut oil fast might be just as good. Because it converts to ketones you'll still be in full ketosis the whole time, just with less of a calorie deficit so perhaps less muscle wasted. And you'll get the detox benefits because you're still reducing your protein intake to zero, so your cells still reach the same level of autophagy (e.g. "cleaning the crap out"). I dunno how much pure coconut oil a man can take without any other food though, lol.
