I think you should ask yourself what you want to do.
Working on a cruise ship is not a very efficient use of your time.
Typically you are working a lot of hours for low pay, and you have to deal with the kind of people who take vacations on a cruiseship.
You would be much better off spending that 6 months or a year doing just about anything else at all that would let you generate enough income to pay living expenses and put some away, while working in your spare time on business ventures or educational projects tied to future business ventures, so that you get to be the guy on the other side of the table.
