I usually ask them what class they're going to or make a comment about the jewelry or clothes they're wearing. I can recall one time I drew a blank but noticed the girl was wearing high heels so I told her I almost wore my stilettos today too. The key to these types of approaches is to be fluid with your openers/where you steer the ensuing conversation. As usual with most things game related the best way to improve is by experience.
