The mission of Marine Recon battalions is not that much different than Army cavalry units. Just add water and subtract armor. So there are plenty of Recon Marines, you'll probably end up in a Recon battalion.

Did you serve in either units [Image: huh.gif] I was in Cav myself, talked to a few Recon men during training... the training and mission of a 19D is totally different from a 0321. Army Cav are mechanized or motorized troops of average quality, short MOS training... your average 18 year old whole played HS football and Call of Duty will be able to become a Cav Scout since their method of recon is from the inside of a Bradley, Stryker or HMMWV. Recon Marines have a difficult selection process similar to SOCOM units, long training pipeline involving amphibious and underwater operations, parachuting, advanced schools, small largely foot mobile teams.

Army Cav :
9 wks Basic
7 wks Scout school

Marine Recon:

First, you have to distinguish between Marine Recon Battalions, which I was talking about, are in every Marine Division, and are not that elite, and Marine "Force Recon" Companies, which are smaller, more elite and receive more specialized training. Not all Marines assigned to Recon Battalions go to the parachute course or dive school.

Second, I did not say the training was the same, or that Army Cav scouts are as well-trained as Marine Recon, I said the missions were about the same.
