After I play basketball or soccer I go into the local Hilton hotel. I wear a backpack, inside the backpack is a garbage bag. I fill the backpack with ice and go home and dump it in my tub half filled with cold water. This removes all the inflammation and soreness (lactic acid?) and speeds up my recovery at least 50-75%.
