I don't have to outline all the ways The Simpsons skews left, do I? It's generally a rebuke of empty consumer culture and unrestrained Scrooge-like capitalism. What it tended NOT to be about is identity politics, however. But it had its moments, even with Apu. Apu was used as a proxy for Mexicans in this episode suggesting we turn a blind eye to immigration law, for instance.
So really, this is the left eating its own for not being extreme enough.
