Well, here's a dumber-than-average footnote that's being left out of most accounts:

McCluskey later called police to say her car had been dropped off at a parking lot and she needed a ride to pick it up. A security escort drove her to her car, the timeline states.

While I stand by what I said that a 21-year-old getting duped by a guy who can pass for 30 and has what a 21-year-old would consider to be social proof (he was employed at a popular local bar) is understandable...



Apparently, it escalated after she got her car back because he started sending her anonymous text messages claiming that he was dead and it was her fault, and although she reported it to the police, she didn't understand how crazy this was actually was and indicated that she didn't feel like she was in danger. She was obviously in "I'm a big girl now" mode and didn't understand what she could and couldn't navigate - at all.
