Very sorry to hear that man. While AIDS may no longer be a death sentence, living with that is still a hard burden to bear.
Other than a brief episode of flu upon contracting HIV, it takes anywhere from 3 to 20 years (8 on average) for AIDS symptoms to show up. That's why the disease is so stealthy - you're infectious for many years without ever knowing you have it, and by that time it's too late.
