Next story isn't even a cop, it's from a civilian 911 operator. There is a big room full of 911 operators, so everyone can hear each others business. She was dispatching into the headpiece on her right, but her cellphone was glued to the left side of her face and she spent half the shift screaming at her husband. Hours of it, every day. Sometimes it would be more accurate to say she was taking breaks from haranguing her husband to dispatch cars. Everyone felt really sorry for the guy.

Jesus Christ.

I can't tell my "insane police relationships" stories without doxxing myself, but I believe all of this.

Another good one - one of my friends sees a hooded figure coming up behind a fellow officer with a knife. He draws down, warns his buddy and orders the suspect to drop the weapon. Hood comes off, it's the victim's wife, the Domestic Violence instructor at the Academy. Not a regular police officer either, but highly ranked and well regarded in the field. He tells her to take off, and the husband starts babbling excuses for her. My friend doesn't want to be involved in this shit show a second longer than necessary, he pulls an about face and walks away.

She had a brutal reputation in the Academy, she would hound people for an off color joke, going so far as to contact their ex-wives and try to get material to axe them. The answer to every test question was "Arrest the guy". One student was describing a situation where, at 12 years old, his mother had beaten him so bad he ended up in the hospital. She was so determined to find the man at fault in every scenario that she said he must have done something to instigate the situation. She got so intense on the topic, and the man's defiance that she had to be physically restrained by other drill instructors and taken from the room. She was supposed to be THE expert on Domestic Violence, but she had taken a job teaching people about it before all the new hardcore DV laws came into affect, so she had no idea how these laws interacted with the reality of what police were faced with. Literally, her only experience with the new laws and their effect on families was when she rushed out to stop her relatives from getting arrested on domestics. This "justice" was good enough for everyone else, but when it was her own relatives getting ground up in the machine, suddenly everything was different.

And as draconian as my state's laws were, she gave an even harsher interpretation, and even intelligent, open minded people took years to fully deprogram themselves. If ever.

An appalling number of "Domestic Violence experts" are nothing but angry bigots using DV as a cover story to act out their lynchings, and frequently domestic abusers in their own right

One technical note - You may hear a few "girl coming up behind an officer with a knife, stopped by another officer" stories from me. This isn't me being creative, it's happened often enough that I have multiple stories with similar fact patterns.
