Well before Political Correction and SJW ruled the west - people everywhere said the gay male population only grows when an old gay men targets and seduces a teenage boy (hence why gay men were associated with pedophilia for an extremely long time).
Unironically it looks like that Australia study confirms the stereotype of old gay people grooming young people to be their lover.
But a 2nd hypothesis is the "pink economy". Gays make a lower income than heterosexual people (for varying reasons I don't want to dwell on) and often kicked out by their families (so no parent's money). I imagine there might be a fair amount of gay sugar babying.
