The paradox in this case is that the woman and her friends/family were working/lower middle class. 1.500$ per person plus a 60.000$ wedding is no issue in certain circles. But it's no issue in circles where they would not give cash on that level anyway.
There are some countries where cash donations are normal anyway.
Though this goes way beyond that - and most people would have preferred to give 1500$/person for a downpayment of a new house of the couple. That would have made more sense to all the working Joes and Janes rather than splash it on a ceremony for a bride's ego.
She certainly was insufferable all around while this happened, so burned a lot of bridges as well.
In the past women used to marry in their Sunday gown with no ring and expensive wedding involved. The ones who could afford it of course did it, but they were paltry few. Now the bitch said it how it is - she wants to feel like a princess for a day. Well - maybe the husband would like to feel like Dan Bilzarian for a day and should hire 30 high-class hookers for one giant orgy for 60.000$.
