This was the weapon used. Innocuous enough until you look into its sordid history. The Lobby broom was designed off the more classical model, the Amish Broom.

However, the Amish Broom was actually designed by the Shakers of 18th century New England. The Shakers designed the broom after fleeing from the Church of England.
The Church of England forced them to flee because they didn't allow competition, similar to their precursor, the Catholic Church.
