The Silicon Valley companies are using subcontracters to cut cost and then wash their hands in innocence if their security guards are essentially homeless. Gotta save those 10-20 bio. $ in cash - you never know eh?
Normally in booming towns the local governments are somehow responding faster by giving incentives to far more low-tier construction projects so that rents do not become unaffordable, but I guess working 60 hours does not put a roof over your head. It's really bizarre comparable to the shoe-less shoe-factory workers of old.
