In this case I think tabletop games, comics, etc. tend to be hobbies of high IQ male teenage nerds, many of whom later go on to become university professors, scientists, programmers in the tech industry and stuff like that.
Sounds a bit far-fetched, and yes it is just a tiny niche, but what they are going for is full spectrum cultural dominance.
