If you decide to spend time in a place with a relatively cold winter, I think you might want to look at making the initial move from late March through early May so that you have a month or two to become familiar with the new country/city before your prime 'hunting' season hits in the summer. You'll also be able to avoid the worst of winter this way (assuming you just stay a few months).
