I paid with a cryptocurrency for the first time the other day, buying something over the gray market. The vendor insisted on using LTC based on ease of transaction. Surprised how easy it was once I set up my wallet. Confirmation was instantaneous. I can definitely see a need for the underlying blockchain technology, but I'm still uncertain if any of these cryptocurrencies will really supplant fiat money. It took me a little bit to understand how to set everything up, and I'm arguably the most techie guy out of my group of friends and family. I think the regular layperson would never give the cryptocurrencies a chance unless the ease of transaction is much simpler. Whoever can figure out how to set up cryptos for the masses will become the next billionaire.
