That's exactly what would have happened to Europe had Christianity not come along: it'd be a continent of technologically backwards savages flinging their feces into the road and starting wars over every minor thing. Or it would've lead to all of Europe being conquered by Islam, since the tiny tribes that neopagans favor would have been picked apart by the armies of the Umayyad. There certainly wouldn't have been a united Francia and a Charles Martel to drive them back.
For that matter, the only reason why India is still Hindu is because the British came along and crushed the Muslim empires that were dominant at the time. Had they not taken over, India would have become majority Muslim, because even Islam, as flawed as it was, was preferable to the pagan horrors of Hinduism.

Pretty much all arguments for neopaganism are the white version of "WE WUZ KANGZ 'N SHEEEEEET!" ("WE WUZ VIKANGZ?"): mythological appeals to a glorious past that never existed.
Neopagans always blame Christianity for the fall of Rome, conveniently ignoring all the evidence of Roman social collapse long before Christianity entered the picture. For example, the Roman capital had to be moved to Mediolanum in 282 AD because Rome itself had become a disgusting cesspool full of rats, sewage, and butt banditry. There was also the matter of putting sexual degenerates and madmen like Nero and Caligula in power: Caligula reigned from 37 AD to 41 AD, not even a decade after Jesus was crucified and before the Gospels were even written. But I guess that was Christianity's fault too.
I particularly enjoy the neopagan animus against "civilization," ignoring the fact that humans in every epoch and every part of the world have always trended towards greater centralization of culture and power, not less. Peoples who stay in the tiny tribes that neopagans exalt as the "true" European way of living always get conquered by foreign empires: how are the American Indians or Australian aborigines doing these days?
And of course, there's always the fun neopagan claim that "Christianity is Jewish," ignoring the fact that the two religions have entirely different value systems, beliefs, and characters. The doctrine of the Trinity means that the two groups don't even worship the same God, claims of "Judeo-Christianity" to the contrary. There's also that niggling detail of how the Talmud, the central religious book of Judaism, declares that Jesus is boiling in excrement in hell for all eternity, or how Jews who convert to Christianity are immediately stripped of their Judaism, or that the Jews themselves condemned Jesus to death by picking a thief, Barabbas, over Him. "Christianity is Jewish?" The Jews themselves seem to be unaware.
And if Christianity was a Jewish plot to undermine Europe, why did Christian churches in the West only become anti-white in the past hundred years? That's one hell of a slow fuse.
But like I said on the Varg Vikernes thread, neopaganism is a self-correcting "problem." The bulk of neopagans are leftists, and a disproportionate number of right-wing neopagans are homos like Jack Donovan, so they'll never have enough kids to become anything more than an Internet curiosity. The only white nations that are likely to survive this century are the overtly Christian ones of eastern Europe.
For all of neopagans' claims about how they're living in harmony with nature, nature has rejected them for continued survival.
As for Putin's comments, given that more mosques have been built in Russia under his tenure than ever before, how Russia will be majority Muslim in a few decades (and is already more Muslim than any other nation in Europe), and how Putin wants to flood Ukraine and other intransigent territories with Muslim Chechens and Dagestanis to solidify his control, he's got a ways to go before his words can be viewed as anything other than half-hearted.
