Have you attended meetup.com groups? Find something that interests you and go, meet some people, make friends. This will help you develop your social skills. Currently i drive Uber and have plenty of conversations there, my main occupation is PHP/MySQL programming for the web.
Guess my problem is being afraid of speak and approaching people, because i cannot recall doing it ever on my own and now when i need it i can't force myself and don't know how.
