I think the reasons are largely socio-cultural and German women (and men) just reflect the (traditional and contemporary) attitude of the powerful German state. It's self-perpetuating. All their arrogance and smart attitude is larger ideological mirror reflecting back. If the German men and women were any less tough and if they were more cool, happenin' and laid back, Germany simply wouldn't be what it is today and it would be more like Italy, Portugal or Jamaica. That's why Germans aren't so easily superficial, and why they walk around with cucumbers shoved up their ass.
