The Generation Z thread

From my contact with Generation Z and youngest Millenials here in Serbia I get the same impression. A small anecdotal evidence: there are right wing/patriotic/nationalist organizations in Serbia that organize bus tours to Kosovo (usually around religious holidays) where you go to visit the Monasteries and Serbian people that still live there in the enclaves and to bring them supplies and other forms of help that they desperately need. A friend of mine (born in '88) took such trip two years ago and he was the oldest person in the bus.

I've noticed this in Serbia too. While the country as a whole is much more conservative or "right wing" than the West in general, the youngest generations are the most patriotic. Even polling indicates that it's actually young people who are the most against Serbia ever joining the EU and the most in favor of things like bringing back the military draft.

I think it's a product of what other people in the thread touched on. Older generations in Serbia grew up in socialism with all of the "Brotherhood and Unity" garbage of Yugoslavia. The country borrowed massive amounts of debt and for a few decades, the standard of living was manageable. This is the period that they reached political maturity.

The younger generations on the other hand didn't grow up with any of that. The only socialism and multiculturalism they know is the socialism and multiculturalism that produced war and the economic devastation they lived through. Their political views reflect that accordingly.

The same process is just beginning to happen in the West. I have no doubt that as economic conditions continue to deteriorate and Western countries become less and less safe, Western Gen Z'ers will become more right-wing and more radical in their views.
