Lost a lot of good will with the US orchestrated 2003 invasion of Iraq (which has had disastrous consequence in the Middle East that are still unfolding now). With 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing it was clear that China was on a trajectory to pose a serious challenge within the next 1-2 decades. What is surprising to note is how revanchist and assertive Russia has become in the 2010s. US/Russia relations were far closer and warmer post-Sept 11 2001 than now. The Russian President remains the same.
