As a former resident of the state, I am not surprised that they are doing it. It is a complete socialist mecca for anyone in the region. What I am surprised is that they are that much ahead of the curve. This is the first time that I have ever heard this. Surely it has been done in such "enlightened" corners of our great nation as California or Mass.
Concerning the kind of kids who go there, the majority of the kids who go there are suburb kids from Chicago, Des Moines, or St. Louis, so the farm kids are far and few between, and even so they are the ones who are fleeing the farm life. I am sure that they will get quite a following as Iowa City is a ripe environment for this. ISU has the College of Agriculture, so the farm kids who are staying farm kids are going there.
