It doesn't matter much IMO. If he looked ugly because of his occipital bun, he wouldn't get the role (He's playing an alpha heart-throb)

Have you ever heard (or read) a woman saying: "OMG Gosling looked ugly because of his occipital bun". It's unusual, but so are green eyes.

It is also one of several natural head shapes based on racial classifications.

Also, the angle of that rear protrusion matches the angle of his nose.

It is not a deformity, just a "type".
