30 million Russians killed (many of them men) during WW2. Millions more Eastern Europeans killed in the Holodomor and Stalin's purges.
The archetypical Russian woman stereotype wouldn't exist if the male-female ratios were balanced. If those horrors didn't occur, Russian women would be more like western women.
