Ben Carson calls on IRS to target Muslim advocacy group

Note how MSNBC words its headline to make the Muslim group appear like the victim.

The Muslim group actually looks like it violated the federal tax code pretty blatantly by demanding Ben Carson end his candidacy.

MSNBC won't include what they said in their report and rather frames it as a "war of words," but here's what they did say a few weeks ago:

“Mr. Carson clearly does not understand or care about the Constitution, which states that ‘no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office,’” said CAIR national executive director Nihad Awad.

“We call on our nation’s political leaders – across the political spectrum – to repudiate these unconstitutional and un-American statements and for Mr. Carson to withdraw from the presidential race.”

But, Carson points out that this very well might be a violation of federal tax code.

By demanding he drop out of the race, Carson said the organization had “brazenly violated IRS rules prohibiting tax-exempt nonprofits like CAIR to intervene in a political campaign on behalf of – or in opposition to – a candidate.”

Now, I'm no legal expert, but I would consider making a statement demanding a candidate drop out of the race to be "intervening".

The CAIR isn't going quietly:

Quote:Quote:

“We find it interesting that Dr. Carson seeks to use a federal government agency to silence his critics and wonder if that tactic would be used to suppress First Amendment freedoms should he become president,” Hooper told MSNBC.

“CAIR is not in violation of any IRS regulation in that we did not ‘participate in’ or ‘intervene in’ any political campaign. We, as mandated by our mission as a civil rights organization, merely expressed the opinion of our community that a candidate whose views violate Article VI of the Constitution is unfit for public office,” Hooper added.

This isn't the first time CAIR has run into trouble with the IRS. They've also been linked to Hamas.
