Pedophilia is not an 'orientation' but a re-enactment of abuse, namely switching the roles in moving from victim to abuser, which gives the abused a sense of power which of course was completely lacking when he or she was abused.
The reason why society refuses this simple and statistically verifiable truth is that it then requires a closer look at the parents, family members and persons of authority within the pedophiles vicinity.
The same is true for schizophrenia, here almost half have a history of childhood abuse and neglect: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21620159. The rest can probably be explained by substance abuse and a miniscule part biological.
Social workers and psychiatrists who usually deal with both pedophiles and scizophreniacs, like all other public employees, do not like confrontation and having to ask unpleasent questions to parents and family.
Often the abusing family will back the abuser and distance themselves from the child.
The truth is that mental illness does not magically appear whether pedophilia or other kinds. Childhood abuse and neglect is the clear cut number one cause of it. Trying to rationalize pedophilia as an orientation is condoning child abuse and is pure evil.
