Yeah, I remember too thinking that when I left my childhood country town I'd finally be amongst the intelligentsia.

From the 80's to now, it's always just the mid-witted Liberal children of the wealthy. I think anyone truly-intelligent quickly abandons any scene and leaves it to the fauxhemians and dilettantes - at least in Westernised countries.
