Some people with health conditions on a standard diet (which is 75% plant-based with unhealthy fats and addititives) look for answers and come upon that. The downsides of that diet only come months or years later.
Ask your friend about some ambulance procedures and how they charge foreigners who are not rapefugees.
As for the medical doctor bills - even in emergencies - yes - I witnessed this myself that MDs charge sometimes upfront. A German doc may bill you, but I don't blame them in France - they are increasingly in a low-trust society.
