The problem is, a lot of millennial average joes are completely removed from the experience of their grandparents, especially in America, where people are raised by popular culture and derive their value system from films, TV series, pop music and promoted intellectual discourse, all of which have been vehicles for vilifying Christianity and glorifying larpy neo-paganism in all its forms.

Also, I seriously doubt that Islam itself promoted inbreeding, this is probably a (((jihadwatch))) type trope. Wedding patterns are set by cultural standards. That's why you have a wide difference between muslim countries in rates of inbreeding, just like you have very wide differences in rates of female genital mutilation across muslim countries.
