It is true. If you have been following the quagmire of Syria since its problems began you would have seen a radical difference between now and then.

Assad has lost control of all but a quarter of his country and what he does control is under constant attack by different enemy groups. His allies of Iran and Hezbollah have struggled to contain this rapid loss of ground.
This has resulted in barbarism on an unprecedented scale on the populace. ISIS and their ilk behead, stone, burn and shoot any dissenter or suspicious person.
Their food supplies are chaotic at best and acquired by terrorist groups for their own needs, medicine is scarce and any hospital has the likelihood of being bombed by Assads military or taken over by terrorists.
Have you heard of the indiscriminate bombings of civilians in Syria? That is the sign of a desperate military trying to hold back the flow of carnage heading its way.
